Detroit April 24 General Motors Corp rejected the CIO United Auto Workers proposal to submit to arbitration how a 15 cent raise should be distributed. UAW CIO urged immediate 11 percent raise for 220000 GM UAW workers and a three man arbitration board to decide if the extra 3 cents should be paid as a flat increase. GM vice president Harry W. Anderson said GM opposes arbitration and prefers collective bargaining saying its offer is advantageous and delay hurts employees.

Courthouse workers report a hailstorm killed many birds on the courthouse lawn. About a hundred starlings were found piled beneath a large tree on the north side, huddled at the trunk as they sought shelter after the storm.

SHERMAN April 24 UP One of Texas' most bungling bank bandits, 22 year old E A Brueggemeyer, pleaded guilty to holding up the Lewisville State Bank on Sept 30 1946 and was sentenced to five years in prison. He fled through a football field where Lewisville High School players gave chase and helped capture him after losing the gun and money in barbed wire fences.
