Amarillo prepares for Clean-Up Paint-Up and Fix-Up Week May 4 to 9 with a general committee meeting at city hall led by C. I. Hood. About 11 000 report sheets for schoolchildren have been printed and extensive planning underway with Mark Galloway as vice chairman and Dr. Huch Sticksell heading the previous year’s initiatives as chair for ways and means.

Soldiers in the California desert train on anti aircraft guns using electrically guided devices. A director, called a mechanical brain, combines calculations and targets to aim the 40 pound shells at a sleeve target 3,000 feet behind a plane. Gunners load quickly up to 20 rounds a minute and verify accuracy with motion pictures and spotters.
