AEC Pantex Plans Revealed at West Texas Convention
Richard G. Elliott of the Atomic Energy Commission said a 3009 peak construction force would be needed for Pantex and about 1009 to 1200 workers once operational. Most hires likely local, reducing housing and school impacts in Amarillo and the Panhandle. If local hiring fails, outside labor and housing would be required. Elliott noted a field office may coordinate with the broader program while outlining radium ore searches and radioisotope uses in agriculture and oilfields.
