Tanker Blaze in Gulf Claims Most of Greensboro Crew

Four survivors of the tanker Esso Greensboro were rescued as five Coast Guard cutters and planes moved to the scene. Three survivors and two bodies were picked up by the Esso New York, with a fourth survivor found on the Greensboro poop deck. The Suez reported its chief mate killed and others burned. Fog threatened further operations as the New York sought a six hour forecast. The Greensboro burned fiercely while the Suez stood by the damaged ship. The Esso New York led rescue efforts and reported the vessels 18 miles apart at noon CST.
