Four survivors of the tanker Esso Greensboro were rescued as five Coast Guard cutters and planes moved to the scene. Three survivors and two bodies were picked up by the Esso New York, with a fourth survivor found on the Greensboro poop deck. The Suez reported its chief mate killed and others burned.
