Federal aid plan would boost public assistance funds
At a two day convention meeting officials discussed the Forand bill now before a House committee. The bill would provide special federal aid to low income states and federal participation in general assistance with medical care funded by federal dollars. In 1943 44 the seven states present used 61 million from state and local funds versus 114 million from federal funds under the plan. Federal per inhabitant expenditures would double and total per person spending would rise from 9.50 to over 13. Federal funds would cover about 62 percent of public assistance in those states. The session closes this afternoon at 3 45 with Mr Winters presiding. Morning and early sessions focused on inner organization.
