He discusses US Supreme Court unions law, Mussolini politics, Paris divorce lore, and a Bavarian gliding stunt by Commander Udet.
L E Thompson delivers the president's annual address at the eighteenth Panhandle Hardware and Implement Dealers Association convention in the Amarillo hotel. He urges cost control and careful credit use as cotton regions face tough years and notes the association has applied for a charter. Stuckey offers invocation as visitors are welcomed.
The University of Texas board of regents continued their meeting in Austin and likely will not consider a successor to President W M W Splawn whose surprise resignation takes effect September 1. The athletic policy dispute also prompted hearings and a push for resignations by L T Bell, athletic director, and a threat by E E Howard of Wichita Falls to resign.
The forecast calls for fair weather tonight and Wednesday with colder air and frost at night. Daytime highs reach around 68 degrees with morning lows near 41, and hourly readings show gradual warming from 48 at 7 am to 68 by 1 pm.
Mae West, star and co author of Sex, along with co author James A Timoney and William Clarence Morgan Stern, were sentenced by General Sessions Judge Donnellan on April 19 for participating in an obscene stage performance. Timoney and West received ten days in the workhouse and a $50 fine for West and Timoney, while Stern faced ten days with no fine. Harold Speilberg said he would appeal the convictions and seek a certificate of reasonable doubt.
Opera star Cecil Arden, in her twenties and a Met Opera veteran, spoke by phone from Amarillo about her upcoming 8 15 p m city auditorium performance in the Panhandle Music Festival. She described her New York roots and noted she rested after Easter in Tapia New Mexico.
Shriners and their ladies attend a pre-ceremonial reception and dance at the Shrine ball room in the Masonic temple. Elaborate arrangements and top class music are planned. All nobles urged to attend with 1927 card and fez. Dancing starts at 9 p.m.
Clifford B. Jones of Spur was elected president of the Texas Technological College board of directors at a board meeting. R. A. Underwood of Plainview was chosen vice president and H. T. Kimbro of Lubbock elected treasurer. The board met to review school needs with the Senate Finance committee.
Mrs Alfred J Brosseau president general of the Daughters of the American Revolution denounced recent Washington biographies that highlighted drinking card playing dancing and social life. She urged hero worship for youth and defended Washington’s greatness and achievements. She cited President Coolidge on the monument remaining.
Austin April 19. Galloway Calhoun assistant attorney general will be sent to Borger to act as special prosecutor within a few days. Attorney General Claude Pollard said Calhoun will arrive in Borger before Sunday and will cooperate with Texas Rangers and state forces in the case.
Sam Taylor Jr aged unknown from Milano was blown from a well by a premature dynamite blast and fell back into the shaft breaking his right arm. He landed about 20 feet high and was taken to a Cameron hospital for treatment.
New rains deepen the flood menace as the Mississippi River rises and tributaries swell. Cities from St Louis to Greenville report record flood stages, with towns like Rock Creek areas and lowlands inundated and farm lands damaged. Refugees travel to safety as levees hold in some places while others break.
Lieutenant E. D. Raney Jr of Beauford, South Carolina, student pilot, died when his plane crashed near Kelly Field. His parachute caught in the tail as he jumped, pulling the rip cord and leaving his body beneath the wreckage in a cotton patch three miles south of the field.
A fire in Oakland's Chinese settlement claimed three Chinese lives and left fifteen others missing. The blaze occurred at the Coffed Shop in the Amarillo Hotel, with the cause undetermined.

In Wabasha Minnesota a charge of first degree murder was filed against Gordon Cooper and his wife of Lake City for poisoning their infant with arsenic. Dr Raymond Bieter testified the poison amount could kill hundreds. Arraignment set for Thursday following a coroner jury verdict of death by poison dated between April 5 and April 11. Mrs Cooper signed a confession admitting the poisoning claiming the baby’s father was not the husband.
Alexander Krykoff, head of the Soviet government, warned at the All-Union Congress of Soviets that imperialistic aggression centers on China and Russia. He said China already is at war with foreign intervention and warned a Pacific conflict could widen into a world war, criticizing the League of Nations and endorsing radical disarmament measures.
Italian flyer Francesco de Pinedo arrives in Washington from San Francisco and is greeted by Ambassador de Martino and U S military officials. He plans to meet President Coolidge at the White House, attend a dinner at the Italian embassy, and join a reception at the Army and Navy Club. Captain Del Prete accompanies him.
A fairly heavy vote was being cast today in the school bond election as officials sought a two thirds majority for the $600,000 issue. The bonds would fund the year's building program adding needed facilities. Polls remained open until six this evening.
A fire at the Consolidated Oil company storage depot in Houston destroyed several thousand gallons of gasoline and lubricating oil. Fire officials said a spark from an electrically driven pump started the blaze, which threatened the eastern section of the city for a time.
A weeklong storm in Texas brings tornadoes and windstorms. Arthur City is leveled with one dead and twelve injured as a gin, gas station, and twelve homes are destroyed. Granger reports five injured. Levelland sees damaged homes and injuries. two daughters drown near Ranger after floodwaters swept their car off a bridge.
A violent tornado struck southeastern Choctaw county near midnight killing Jiame, 18, and injuring several others. Limited details reached the wire service, with reports linking the twister to Arthur City Texas.
Daylight revealed Arthur City on the Red River wholly leveled by a late night windstorm. About twenty five buildings were razed or badly damaged, five to six residents escaped harm, and one person was confirmed dead. Reports then placed the storm moving toward Fort Towson Oklahoma with additional damage near Mesa and Hugo.
A tornado crossed nearly all of Gillespie County on Monday night, destroying Adolfo Beck’s house and barn, killing fifteen head of stock, and causing widespread damage with no reported injuries.
J. Morgan, 50, Corsicana businessman, was found dead in his store Tuesday. A coroner’s verdict said death was caused by poison self administered. He is survived by his widow and one daughter.
