Two police officers were shot and wounded as two desperadoes fortified a near north side Chicago home. Detectives moved in to arrest one suspect. gunfire continued through midnight as officers used tear bombs and fresh arsenals were deployed to breach the third floor apartment.
Florence Macbeth, called the Minnesota Nightingale, dazzled at the Municipal Auditorium with a faultless performance. George Roberts accompanied on piano, delivering lively encores and a second program that drew praise for artistry and emotional range.

Great Falls Mont April 15 First direct evidence tying Len Burton Wheeler to alleged misuse of office in oil permit affairs of Gordon Campbell a Montana oil magnate was offered by prosecutors Henry Clyde Glosser former Campbell office employee testified about overheard conversations with Wheeler and others about permits from the interior department Washington The government contends Wheeler used his senatorial influence to aid Campbell in obtaining permits.
United Press reports a late night Oklahoma wind storm sweeping Chickasha with dust and sand clouds. Telephonic links were severed to Ardmore and other points but no casualty or property damage was confirmed by officials.
The city government will transition from the present city commission to the new administration at 1 o clock Monday. Major FR. S. Blasdel and Commissioner FL RL Smith are outgoing officers. Lee Bivian becomes mayor with Charlie Fisk as Commissioner No. 1. The first official session of the new commission is Tuesday afternoon. The outgoing regime leaves behind a record including a unitary valuation system for tax info, a separated tax assessor division, and a modern accounting control system.
Authorities probe motive after a shooting outside the First National Bank building in East St. Louis. Two unidentified men and two police officers were killed and witnesses could not identify the victims or hear the preceding dispute. An American Warehouse Company storage ad appears in the text.

Amarillo plans a 15 900 strong delegation for the West Texas Chamber of Commerce convention seeking $45 per person including rail fare and band costs. The special train leaves May 30 for Mineral Wells via Santa Fe, with events in Fort Worth and Dallas, and returns Thursday. Amarillo has pledged 125 travelers. many towns along the route expected to join.
A 24 year old Plainview man died Saturday afternoon when engulfed by a cave-in at a gerrave pit. Witnesses say he tried to flee the landslide but was trapped beneath swirling sand and his neck broken. Graham, unmarried, was killed instantly.
