Pioneer Resident of Panhandle Visits Amarillo
S. P. Merry, an early Panhandle settler from 25 miles southwest of town, visited Amarillo yesterday. He arrived in 1883 amid buffalo and antelope, recalls the first cattle drive from South Texas to Frying Pan headquarters, freighting to Dodge City, and a landscape without Amarillo or fences. He travels in a car kept roadworthy since 1914 and avoids frequent visits to the city.
