Moisture breaks drought in Texas with scattered rains

Crop-saving rains fell across West and Central Texas from Amarillo to Abilene, Big Spring, Midland, and Fort Worth, easing drought but not fully breaking it. Abilene logged 1.02 inches, Big Spring up to 2.05 inches, Midland 1.29 inches for 1950, and Cleburne 1.98 inches, with other areas reporting two inches in spots and lighter showers elsewhere.

At 2 25 this afternoon the CAA at Amarillo Air Terminal said Mrs. Hooker's plane landed at Plainview at 2 05 Flyers over the Panhandle were alerted early this afternoon to watch for a red Stinson plane piloted by Mrs Frances Hooker of Amarillo long overdue on a flight from Lubbock Mrs Hooker left Lubbock at 11 09 this morning and was due in Amarillo at 12 27 o'clock She had not arrived at 2 o'clock Mrs Hooker an experienced pilot was flying a Stinson with registration 9448 K

Tragic Family Massacre Ends With Fire and Suicide

An 18-year-old Huntington youth, William Billy Blanks Jr, killed his parents a sister and wounded himself after stabbing and bludgeoning them. He later died in hospital seven hours after a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Firefighters found a brutal scene with a blood smeared knife and hammer, a fractured dog, and a shattered box like house. Authorities described a rampage before 2 am and a subsequent blaze that destroyed the residence.

Search planes scour Baltic for missing US Navy plane

Copenhagen on April 13 reports search planes failed for the fifth day to locate the US Navy patrol plane missing since Saturday with 10 aboard. A possible wreck near the Swedish island of O raised hopes, but surveys found nothing. Pravda claimed the missing plane violated the Soviet frontier on a spying mission, while Washington and Moscow argued over whether the plane fired or was unarmed.
