Dr John F Condon 72 year old Fordham lecturer known as Jafsie was chosen by alleged kidnappers as intermediary. He corresponded via notices in New York papers and set up a meeting with Col Henry Breckenridge, Lindbergh's counsel.
Dr. John F. Condon said he renewed negotiations with the Lindbergh baby kidnappers after paying a $50,000 ransom. Police reported a mysterious anonymous message offering information on the child's whereabouts on or near the A. A. C. dock in Chrome New Jersey.
The Interstate Commerce Commission denied the Texas and Pacific Railway Company’s bid to build 330 miles in Texas from Big Spring to Dimmit with branches to Vega Amarillo Pryde and Lubbock. It cited lack of necessity due to existing markets and extensive truck service, and opposed the plan after hearings in Lubbock.
Prospects for a record Panhandle attendance at a 7:30 PM Democratic Jefferson Day dinner and rally at the Amarillo Hotel as part of nationwide party effort. Speakers include Mayor Ernest Thompson Senator Clint Smill Gene Howe and Bob Underwood. Party leaders say this is a Democratic year with hopes to return the White House.

Dr Paul Whitfield Horn 64 longtime Texas Technological College president died today of a heart attack. He collapsed in his bath after intermittent illness since January surgery. Survived by widow Maude and daughter Ruth, he had led Tech since its founding seven years ago. Burial Thursday on campus with Rev J O Haymes officiating. Horn had held multiple educational posts in Missouri Texas and Tennessee including Southwestern University Georgetown and Houston schools.
Dr. F B Malone of Lubbock was elected president of the Panhandle District Medical Society at its two day convention closing in Lubbock. Dr. B E Jones of Wellington named vice president and Dr. Richard Keys of Amarillo re elected secretary treasurer. J J Hanna of Quanah installed as president for 1933 with A E Wirsett of Amarillo continuing as vice president. Lubbock selected for next semi annual convention. 123 doctors attended with papers on Gynecology and Obstetrics and a talk on Brain Tumor Diagnosis by Dr. W A Adson of Mayo Clinic.
Chicago April 13 voters favored Hoover for the Republican nomination and Roosevelt for the Democratic nomination. Illinois reported Roosevelt leads in Nebraska and Kentucky pledges to Roosevelt while Missouri supports Hoover. Florida delegates split, with 13 for Hoover. In Nebraska Hoover trailed France in the Republican ballot but led in other districts.
Early returns from Nebraska show Franklin D Roosevelt 56764 and James Garner 17204 and William Murray 15096 in Democratic presidential preference with 1234 of 2040 precincts reporting. Republican results list France 421447 and Hoover 5408 while Charles W Bryan leads for Democratic governor and Kenneth Wherry and Dwight Griswold contend for Republican governor with Griggs ambulance noted.
The Taxpayers' League of Amarillo asked for a complete cost breakdown of the city's school system. Superintendent W. A. McIntosh will answer within two to three days, listing enrollment, teachers, salaries, janitors' pay, office costs, and services of the tax attorney for January to March.
Dr Paul W Horn president of Texas Technological College died at his Lubbock home after months of declining health. He had led the college since its 1925 organization and served as its chief executive until his death.
In Honolulu on April 13 the territory pressed its circumstantial case against Mrs. Granville Fortescue and three Navy men for the Kahahawal lynching. Eleven witnesses, including police, testified about January 8 the abduction and killing, tracing events from the body’s discovery to the Fortescue home. Mrs. Fortescue watched as bloodstained sheets were shown.
The U.S. Treasury reported a peace time federal budget deficit of 2,017,858,745.29 dollars on April 11, the first time in history the deficit exceeded two billion dollars.
The forecast tracks partly cloudy skies for Amarillo and west Texas tonight and Thursday with warmer conditions in the southeast. New Mexico sees fair weather both nights with little temperature change. Temperature extremes reach 50 to 78 today.

Fred Stone makes his first Southwest appearance, and prices range from 50 cents to 3 dollars for matinee and 1 to 3 dollars for night shows.
Fire at the Texas Elf Carbon Company plant near Pampa damaged the press room and a warehouse. Loss estimated over 100000 dollars with 760000 pounds of carbon black burned or damaged. Fire began under the press room floor and spread through much of the plant. Company subsidiary of Cabot Company of Boston.
Vagrancy charges against Co. C. Julian, his secretary Juanita Campbell, and race horse owner Edward Rollins were dismissed by Municipal Judge George J. Breiger in San Francisco.
In Plainview Panhandle Plains Dairy Show vets discuss radical rule changes. Plans to open the show to breeders across 54 Texas counties and 13 Eastern New Mexico counties, regardless of membership, may abolish the $5 exhibit fee and reduce space costs for exhibitors.
In Laredo Texas a nine year old girl Carmen Avalle daughter of a farm laborer was killed when a pistol held by her 15 year old cousin discharged. Officers are investigating the incident.
The Fifth District Court of Civil Appeals granted Thomas B. Love’s motion to certify direct to the state Supreme Court whether the Democratic executive committee may require a loyalty pledge from voters at the May 7 precinct conventions. Judge Allen had dismissed the mandamus bid to allow participation without signing the pledge, citing no restricting statutes. The appellate panel acted to ensure a timely ruling before the conventions.
