One bedroom units cost 3500 dollars and two bedroom units 4000 dollars. Total commitments amount to 185800 dollars. The next project will be 50 dwellings near University Heights as work begins soon after site acquisition near Carver School.
Foreigners in Shanghai faced another evacuation setback as the coastal steamer Anking trip was called off. Tarzana California April 11 Wanda Moore a two year old girl caused a car to crash through a market window after starting the vehicle. Her parents stated she drove the car briefly and escaped injury.
AMARILLO visit by Howard Dodgen executive secretary of the Texas Game, Fish & Oyster Commission for a Panhandle Outdoor Sportsmen's Club meeting. Dodgen discussed regulatory authority, its responsibilities for game restoration, hatcheries, stocking waters, and enforcing laws. He and aides will discuss Panhandle regulations effective Sept. 1.

Former Communist Louis Budenz was subpoenaed by a Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee to testify as the mystery witness in McCarthy’s charges against Owen Lattimore. Lattimore, Johns Hopkins professor, denied ever being a Communist and called McCarthy a liar. Budenz, once Daily Worker editor, renounced Communism and returned to the Catholic Church. He will appear publicly, with Lattimore later allowed to reply, and cross-examination barred except by inquiry members.
In Houston on April 11 UP-H C Haynie, age 79, surprised a burglar inside his home. The suspect, 38, attempted flight but was stopped by Haynie with a walking cane. Police arriving found the elderly homeowner holding the prisoner with a pocket knife.
Morris Zeppelin watched Firemen extinguish the sixth blaze in as many months at his Denver box factory and announced he would move it to a new location. Firemen say all fires were incendiary. A firefighter quipped that the boxes’ appeal to children fuels the fires as a charred box lies nearby.

Nearly 100 physicians and surgeons gathered in Amarillo for the Panhandle District Medical Society spring meeting. The Herring Hotel hosted the opening session with technical papers on new treatments and radical methods, led by District President Dr. C. B. Jones of Wellington. Dr. Jones E. Witcher of Amarillo spoke as sessions split into medicine and eye ear nose throat.
The eye ear nose and throat section held sessions all day with Dr Chester L McHenry of Oklahoma City presenting 15 infection cases from throat perforations including a child injured by a tin sliver from a sardine can. Dr Albert Egenhofer of Santa Fe spoke on cataract surgery before Dr J J Crume of Amarillo wrapped the session.
Amarillo’s 83 year old Dr J J Crume told Panhandle District Medical Society members that conservative surgery avoids tissue destruction and preserves function. He recalled early radical ideas and cited nasal inferior turbinates to illustrate learning from past mistakes and the mucous membrane’s protective role. He emphasized gradual, common sense approaches to maintain breathing and tissue health.
E. W. Billy Richey famed Panhandle magazine salesman died at 6 30 in St Anthony s Hospital from a heart ailment after years of illness at the Ross Hotel He claimed to know 50 000 people by name and came to Amarillo from Mena Arkansas in 1932 A longtime booster he belonged to Polk Street Methodist Church and the McDavid Bible Class Funeral arrangements were pending at N S Griggs Sons Surviving is his wife Virginia Richey of Mena Arkansas
Yukio Ozaki, 91, a Tokyo mayor when the cherry trees were gifted to Washington, plans a U S visit to express gratitude for Roosevelt mediation in the 1905 Russo Japanese War. He recalls sending saplings as thanks and notes Japanese propaganda about the trees. He has served in parliament since 1890.
A 65 year old woman Elizabeth Spears was arrested in Atlanta for selling liquor without a license and jailed with more than 50,000 dollars in cash, including a 10,000 dollar bundle. Detectives Boone and Sikes kept her from posting bond to avoid leaving the money unprotected and feared harm if she were locked in a cell.
Mary Alice Page known as Miss Mappie, 90, died at a Kemah sanatorium after surviving the 1900 Galveston flood and witnessing the 1885 city fire. Officials say she was an early Texas telephone switchboard operator and possibly the second woman in the world in that role.
