Funeral services for Jon G. Wayland aged 51 were held at 4 PM today at his home 1804 Julian Boulevard following a prolonged illness. An Amarillo property owner and prominent builder, Wayland came to the city in 1910 to manage his father J A Wayland’s interests after the elder published The Appeal to Reason.
The home of B E Stallones, head of the South Texas Producers Association, burned in Houston early today amid a milk war with distributors. Stallones suspects arson, says his family escaped as the house collapsed. Investigators traced the blaze to Tomball, 32 miles away, after 700 gallons of milk bound for Houston distributors opposed to the Producers Association were dumped on the road by masked men. Two trucks were halted, driven by P D Franz and G Terpstra.
Mrs. Orville P. Pease, 46, dying of cancer, shot her husband 46 in their Houston home saying she chose to die with him. Neighbors noted he feared she could not live long. Mrs. Pease was charged with murder.

Washington April 11 Sharp dissension appeared between President Hoover and the House economy committee over divergent plans for sweeping government salary cuts. Chairman Burns said McDuffie would lead the fight for a salary reduction plan, and the bill faces House action tomorrow. Burns contrasted Hoover’s staggered plan with the committee’s eleven percent cut as unsatisfactory.
Geneva April 11 Hugh Gibson American delegate urged the world disarmament conference to abolish offensive weapons including tanks heavy mobile guns and gases saying abolition would not harm security and could ease tension. Sir John Simon and Dr Giuseppe Motta supported the proposal in general commission.
Price Ragsdale of Fort Worth was shot by Richard Hughes during a confrontation on Mansfield road after Ragsdale, out on bond for liquor law violations, tried to force Hughes into a car. Ragsdale died from a thigh wound after the scuffle. Hughes said he seized the weapon and fired.
In Honolulu, April 11, jurors prepare to hear the circumstantial case against four Americans charged with the Kahahawai killing. Clarence Darrow remains silent as Los Angeles alienists interview the defendants. The defense may press an unwritten law plea and hinge on a possible hung jury for an acquittal.
Berlin April 11 United Press Frederick Kuh reports President Paul von Hindenburg will serve another seven years after a sensational victory over Adolf Hitler by about 6 million votes. Final returns show Hindenburg 19,359,642. Hitler 13,417,388. Thaelmann 3,606,388 amid street clashes leaving five dead and many injured.
Knights Templar from across Texas gather for a four day grand commandery conclave in Wago Texas. National and state dignitaries attend led by Grand Master Perry W Weidner of Los Angeles and Grand Commander John T Rice of Texas. They travel from Fort Worth to the event with aid from Griggs ambulance service.
Houston reports Gulf Companies raised the price of Texas and Louisiana coastal crude by 10 cents per barrel to a top of 91 cents.
The war office ordered the return of several thousand additional troops from Shanghai today.
Dozens entered the first Panhandle contract bridge tourney sponsored by the Junior Welfare League. Mrs. H. K. Stanfield announced that entries must be in by Thursday and should be teams rather than individuals. Prizes are promised and brackets will be published in The News-Globe. play begins next week with 25 rubber preliminaries and semi finals in a central hall.
Amarillo 10 cent taxi service stopped at noon when liability insurance policies were canceled. New policies rise to 175 dollars per car, rushed from Houston. A courtesy car will answer calls and passengers ride free until compliance.
Dallas hosts the arrival of the first of 6000 Baptist Sunday school delegates for the state convention. Pat Neff former governor and Baylor president will speak Wednesday. Dr T L Holcombe of Oklahoma City will speak tomorrow night. Dr W R White and Rev C E Matthews of Fort Worth are listed on the program.
