County Judge Sam Motlow opposes remodeling the Potter County courthouse and favors building a new unit north of the old structure funded by available tax money. He proposes occupancy of the old building during construction and using about 400000 in bonds under existing valuations, while opposing sale of courthouse land. The commission will decide at next Monday's meeting.
President Hoover and aides pledge vigorous support in Congress for the three power naval agreement. Administration advisers acknowledge conference gains but judge them less than Hoover hoped. The London pact will spare the United States about 250 million dollars in the next five to six years by limiting the two chief potential rivals Britain and Japan.
The Eastbound Pickwick Greyhound bus with twenty seven aboard was struck by a Westbound Santa Fe mail train near Isleta New Mexico killing nineteen and injuring eight. The wreck sparked a gasoline explosion burning many bodies. Driver F D Williams and conductor George Irwin were among the dead. The train slowed to 38 mph but the crash was deemed unavoidable. The scene drew officials including H B Evatt as investigations continued.
The body of James Pinckney Henderson the first Texas governor ex humed after lying 72 years in Congressional Cemetery. It will be re buried in Austin on April 21 the anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto. Henderson born in Lincolnton New York raised a volunteer company in 1836 and helped admit Texas to the union before serving in Congress.

Nearly 300 boys from 14 West Texas high schools gathered at the Tri-State Fair Grounds for the Globe News track and field meet opening. Preliminary events in the high school division run this afternoon, with field events and finals tomorrow at 9:30. Rural pentathlon runs today, tennis draws at Ellwood Park with 40 players from 18 schools. No admission, spectators treated as guests of Globe News.
Sheriff Edgar Fields said Dr. A J Bass of Columbia Missouri confessed involvement in a $200000 life insurance murder plot tied to the death of William Robert Pearman near Bentonville Arkansas. Bass also claimed hiring St Louis gangsters to kill an Indianapolis insurance official in a separate $100000 swin die scheme.
United Press reports in Chicago on April 11 that Aaron Woodward, a 36 year old Black bandit, fatally harmed a policeman during a hold up of a minister and was subsequently electrocuted after joking until the end.
In Piqua seven bank robbers armed with machine guns and rifles raided Citizens National Bank and Trust Company, netting about 10000 dollars. Henry Matthews a delicatessen owner was fatally wounded and Ray Alexander a loan company manager seriously wounded as the gunmen fired through the bank and loan office windows. An unidentified man was shot in the leg and a burglar alarm alerted the city. Matthews died soon after hospital arrival.
City officials announce a crackdown as rabies risk and unlicensed stray dogs trigger a program to kill unlicensed dogs on sight. Officer Frank Gamblin reports bagging three to five dogs this week amid widespread license noncompliance and a warning to owners to license and test pets.
Corne lius Vanderbilt Jr. announced plans to build five tourist hotels in Mexico along the highway from Nuevo Laredo to Mexico City. He made the statement during a brief stop in Sweetwater while en route to California.
Mrs J L Watson a Denton teachers college student remained unconscious after an automobile crash on Wednesday in which Miss Augusta Capps also a student at the same college was fatally injured Miss Watson suffered a fractured skull
London reports the fire power conference aimed at limiting great navies has not achieved full success but delegates are very satisfied. A draft treaty pledges U.S., Britain and Japan to limits until 1996 with France and Italy invited to join on guiding principles. A drafting committee and jurists will finalize the pact ahead of a plenary signing next Thursday. Dwight W. Morrow will join the drafting team with two assistants.
Will Rogers, the famed humorist, said he could not decide whether to run for governor in California Oklahoma or Nevada. A group of California Democrats urged him to enter the race and he asked how many Democrats made the bunch. He replied two. Rogers said he preferred not to hold office now wanting to save money and perhaps run later if elected.
In Bombay on April 11 a crowd injured 22 people outside the courthouse after Satyagrahis were sentenced to terms for yesterday's police raid on the national Congress headquarters. Ten police, including three Europeans, were hurt. Abid Ali received nine months and Mehr Ali four months for incitement and related charges.
Light rains visited Amarillo and the Panhandle of Texas and Eastern New Mexico last night, continuing into the morning. The U S Weather Bureau forecasts more light showers for the north portion tonight. Santa Fe reports one fourth to one half inch of rain between Elida and Artesia, with light showers west from Amarillo Canyon and Hereford. Light showers at intermediate points west of Amarillo were reported by the Rock Island.
Directs of the Lumbermen's Association of Texas will meet within 60 days to plan cooperation between farmers and dealers, a goal voiced at the annual convention. James W. Rockwell of Houston was elected president, succeeding J. A. Kirkpatrick of Waco. San Antonio selected as the 1931 convention city.
Vernon April 11 United Prensa reports jailer J D Linton was badly bruised after four prisoners attacked him during a night escape attempt. A prisoner seized his hands another bound him and a fourth beat him with a broom. The gun was wrested but recovered. Virgin Stareup 22 led the attack amid station robbery charges.
C Y Vernon Amarillo chamber of commerce manager says the Panhandle Music Festival is a major city event that attracts several thousand visitors each spring. The festival has grown from a convention to an institation over 17 years. Five artists appear on this year’s programs. Tickets are on sale at Amarillo College of Music 1104 Polk Street.
Senator Johnson of California asked Vice President Curtis to relieve him as head of a special Senate committee formed to investigate campaign expenditures of senatorial candidates. The panel includes Goldsborough and Patterson Republicans and Pittman and Wagner Democrats. Johnson cites his duties as Commerce Committee chair and time constraints. Norris resolution to start the probe passed. Davis of the Labor Department endorsed the inquiry amid race coverage in Pennsylvania and Nebraska.
