Weather Brief for Tonight and Thursday Across Regions

The forecast calls for unsettled, colder conditions tonight with partial clearing Thursday. Temperatures today ranged from 53 to 44 degrees, with 81 and 44 noted a year ago. Hourly readings span 44 to 53 degrees by morning and early afternoon. West Texas expects fair, colder in the Panhandle and warmer in the southeast. Smith and Lowden Lead Four States in Delegates Ordeal

Four states Illinois Nebraska Idaho and Oklahoma produced a sharp split in Republican and Democratic delegate counts. Lowden and Smith led Republican and Democratic ballots with Lowden accumulating 46 Illinois delegates and Smith securing 42 Illinois district delegates and eight at large. Nebraska split between Norris and uninstructed, Idaho named Borah delegates, Oklahoma supported Smith and Reed. Overall tallies place Hoover 174, Lowden 129, Norris 24, Borah seven, and Smith unstated for total delegates to date.

Two States Change Total of Delegates

Presidential primaries in Illinois and Nebraska yesterday and party conventions in several states adjusted delegate tallies but did not alter the overall ranking. Hoover leads Republicans with 181 delegates, Lowden 130, Curtis 24, Norris 20, Borah 11, and 109 undecided. Democrats show Smith with 241, Reed 36, George 28, Hitchcock 16, and 58 undecided.

Thompson Resignation Threat If Crowe Defeated

The Chicago Daily Tribune editorialized that Mayor William Hale Thompson would resign if State's Attorney Robert E. Crowe lost in the primary. The paper also denounced Frank Smith and accused State Senator Small of repudiation, suggesting political disgrace.

Bus Crash Kills 14 and Injures 24 Children

A Louisville and Nashville passenger train struck a school bus near Marbury Alabama yesterday killing 14 year old Donnie McCord and injuring 24 other children, several severely. Bus driver Edward Rogers said a box car on a sidetrack blocked his view. Emergency crews rushed victims to Birmingham hospitals as the bus was demolished.

Abraham Lincoln drama tickets urged for quick sale

With time growing short, tickets for the John Drinkwater presentation of Abraham Lincoln at the Auditorium are selling fast. Dr. A. F. Lumpkin of Amarillo named president elect of the Panhandle District Medical Society with Dr. W. L. Baugh of Lubbock installed as president at the city hall meeting. War Birds on Training Tour Skip Amarillo

The First Pursuit group of U S Army planes will not include Amarillo in its current training itinerary. A telegram from Trubee Davidson assistant secretary of War in charge of aviation says the 35 planes will visit only army schools this trip, with Amarillo hoped for the next flight.

Governor Dan Moody arrived in Houston for an all day harmony conference after leaving Austin. He announced strong public backing for the harmony movement from El Paso to the Sabine and from South Texas to the Panhandle.
