ABILENE April 9 The case of Julian Armstrong 30 of Sweetwater who allegedly wed 12 year old Nadie Hope awaits action by the 104th District grand jury reconvening April 14 Armstrong was charged with giving a false age for his bride when securing a marriage license claiming she was 20 The Sweetwater officers who arrested him said the girl was 12 The license shows the ceremony was performed March 29 in Sweetwater.

In Joshua Texas villagers refuse to let Angus D McMillan retire at 82. He briefly quit seven years ago but the posted notice liquidating his private bank drew no action. Residents keep depositing and borrowing, and McMillan says he cannot quit because friends need his services. He will remain as the town’s banker.
The United States Navy commissioned the 35,000 ton North Carolina at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in a wartime ceremony attended by 1,500 guests led by Secretary of the Navy Knox.
