In Austin on April 9 41 percent support a bill to exterminate gophers and salamanders overrunning Raina County. The measure, debated during a two hour House session, provides a bounty of 18 cents per head for salamander or gopher killed in the northeast Tea county over the next four months.
Police report a burglary at the J. I. Case Company office at 107 North Polk. Entry was gained by prying open a door and a cash drawer was emptied of about $13 to $123 with more than $1,000 in checks left outstanding as investigators review the scene.

Cyrus Giles death near Amarillo sparked charges against Bill Bergner and O H Curtis for failure to stop and aid. Hassman, who was with them, posted bond and awaits grand jury action set for April 27. Curtis to report for arraignment. River Road accident occurred Monday night nine miles north of Amarillo.

Tokyo premier Senjuro Hayashi inhabits a $28,000 home built as an anti killer refuge. The mansion features bomb proof rooms subterranean passages secret exits and disappearing floors to shield him during political danger. His wife and family were kept away until safety was assured.
Funeral services for Allen Johnson, a former Amarillo peace officer, will be held Saturday at 1 PM from Boxwell Brothers Chapel with Rev. E B Fincher officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Surviving are wife Gesner, son Allen 18, daughter Grady 14, and siblings Pete, Pope John son, and Pat Johnson.
Governor James V. Allred urged the Texas Senate to promptly pass a House bill extending state participation in the interstate oil compact for two more years. The House already approved. Allred cited broad support and rapid ratification by other signatories.
Twenty four Pan handle boys were examined this morning at the Potter County courtroom under Capt. F W Maxwell Fuqua Ranch Camp commander. The youths aged 17 to 28 were enrolled for CCC service with camps in Oregon and belong to families eligible for relief.

In McNary Arizona eight bodies were recovered from a Douglas transport plane crash in a mountain wilderness. Lumberjacks cleared a path and built a bridge over White River before the remains of six passengers and two pilots could be taken down Mount Baldy. An inquest was set at McNary as Navajo County officials probe the crash caused by a snowstorm.
The slayer of James Baird, a 26 year old high school science teacher, was named as John Weaver, a 60 year old miner. Weaver was removed to Goldfield to guard against mob reprisal after shooting Baird who protected his police dog at the post office. Baird, a former University of Colorado swimming star, had moved from Boulder to teach here. his wife is due a baby within a month.
Amarillo friends report the death of Dr W F Williams a longtime local veterinarian who died suddenly in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He shaped Amarillo sanitation practices served as state and national veterinary association president and former partner to Dr E F Lanham. He left Amarillo in 1919 moved to Fort Worth and was appointed to state office by Governor Miriam Ferguson. In recent years he represented Jensen Salsbury Laboratories and headed the Philadelphia branch.
Fifteen army planes including the 18th and 30th squadrons of March Field Riverside Calif under Col Harmon took off from Randolph Field for return to base. They will refuel at El Paso Tex before continuing to March Field.
Festival proceedings report a new corresponding secretary and re elected treasurer while yesterday’s contests featured younger pupils and vocal ensembles. In Dallas Grace Anderson, 23, a telephone company supervisor, died from a bullet wound linked to her sister Irene’s earlier death. the shooter Winstead committed suicide.
