Western Air Express inaugurates three new Amarillo lines with six plane daily moves and a shift of operations from Municipal to English Field. A Fokker Universal and a tri motor will operate from English Field as plans hint at coast to coast connections via Transcontinental Air Express.
The Senate Lobby Committee subpoenas records of the Association Against the Prohibition Amendment and orders Henry Curran of New York to appear next Tuesday. Curran denies拒否ing access to records while investigator John Holland is sent from New York with the subpoena. Representative Tinkham urges probes of the Methodist Board of Temperance and the Federal Council of Churches amid accusations of government influence.
J. E. Bristow from Oklahoma-Texas, held by bandits in Nayarit Mexico for over a month, was released after ransom in gold was paid. Bristow, reported in fair health, joined his son Obie and two American friends including Merle Blakely, the Times dispatch said.
Los Angeles April 9 The Examiner reports Colleen Moore film star and John McCormack motion picture producer have separated and Miss Moore is expected to file for divorce within two weeks likely on grounds incompatibility.
At 6 45 a m a Missouri Pacific collision in Alvin Texas between an express train 516 and a stationary train 514 killed a negro brakeman named Mack Brazier and critically injured engineer Burton Rayford who was taken to Galveston. About a dozen passengers were injured.

Plainview will host the Panhandle District Medical Society’s semiannual convention during the 28th annual meeting at the Herring Hotel. Amarillo dates set for October 7 and 8 for the spring convention. Dr J P Lattimore of Lubbock was elected president with Dr F M Malone of Lubbock as vice president and Dr G T Vineyard of Amarillo as president elect. Richard Keys of Plainview was re elected secretary treasurer.
In New Orleans on April 9 Republican mayoral candidate Warren V. Miller and 245 associates failed to win a precinct, drawing 14 707 votes to 53 031 for Democrat T Seemes Walmsley. The GOP ticket was the first since the early 1910s.
Ruth Hanna McCormick defeats Charles 8 Deneen in a high turnout Illinois primary to secure the Republican nomination for the U S Senate. She will face James Hamilton Lewis in November as Medill McCormick's widow continues the family bid for the seat. Deneen concedes after initial refusals, and Lewis secures the Democratic nomination.
Fort Worth April 9 W T Waggoner cattleman and capitalist has purchased 25000 dollars worth of bonds for the proposed Texas Christian University stadium. Sale of bonds has brought in nearly 100000 of the 175000 sought by this means. The university is to provide the remainder.
Police arrest Davine Das Gandhi son of Mahatma Gandhi and Ahanker Lal district congress president with 23 salt volunteers at Saleempur for manufacturing salt. Prisoners marched to Meerut. Another Gandhi son was detained days earlier for breaking self rule and jailed six months.
S. J. Payne of Tulsa was named president of the Texas Panhandle Plains Dairy Association succeeding O. L. Stansel of Floydada. New officers include J. E. Rigler as vice president and Maury Hopkins as secretary treasurer with a large slate of diverse directors from Plainview Floydada Panhandle Hereford Amarillo and other towns.
In Dallas on April 9 lawyers argued whether the 1927 liberalized libel statute or the old law applies to Dr. Hiram W. Evans Klan libel suit against the Austin American, tied to Gen. M. M. Crane’s 1924 Dallas speech. The newspaper argued under the 1927 act true reports of public meetings are privileged.
Percy Howard on death row for the 1920 murder of El Paso chauffeur N W Nixon is absolved after co defendant W S Ham confessed. Ham, tried at Abilene, received 26 years and now claims Howard acted without involvement. Governor Moody announced the new statement.
London April 9 Japanese withdrew their request to transfer 26 000 tons from destroyers to submarines. The move clears a path toward a tripartite pact among Japan Britain and the United States pending a minor training ship definition. Conference participants include Secretary Stimson Prime Minister MacDonald and Reijiro Wakatsuki.
In London on April 9 France stated its stance in naval talks, rejecting parity with Italy and demanding a superior fleet by 240,000 tons. Jacques Dumesnil, chief of the French Marine, reportedly conveyed the position to A. V. Alexander, First Lord of the British Admiralty.
Dallas April 9 Texas Senator Thomas B Love told the Howard Association that the prison system promotes crime and reforms youth offenders poorly. He cited personal investigations from the recent legislative prison debate as basis for his claim.
The Western Improvement company announces plans for a new two story brick building on the southwest corner of Fifth Avenue and Taylor Street. Tenants are told to vacate within 60 days as detailed designs are prepared. The 100 by 105 foot structure will replace Amarillo’s first brick building, erected 42 years ago. Principal owners include J. W. Crudgington H. A. Nobles M Nobles and J. M. Neely with tenants such as Lee Smith Oliver Drug Co and the Monogram Store.
In Greenville Texas on April 9 the four railroad brotherhoods of Texas held their 1930 legislative assembly with over 600 visitors. Amarillo Big Spring Temple Austin and Waco competed for the next meeting site, to be announced Friday at a joint session where legislation will also be decided.
J E Bristow mining operator, abducted March 10 by Mexican bandits near Ahuacatlan, is reported safe and en route to Tepic on the west coast. Mrs Bristow expressed relief and gratitude as neighbors heard the news and shared quiet prayers after a week of uncertainty.
In Linden Texas cadet Barfield 28 of New Boston defense begins in second murder trial over the 1928 fatal shooting of Ray Palmer. State seeks the death penalty. Palmar’s mother Lily Gholsten testified he beat Barfield in a fist fight and Barfield then shot him as he lay.
Tickets for the Panhandle Music Festival at Amarillo College of Music go on sale at 9 am. The April 16 to 18 event features five artists with two joint recitals. Prices range from 1 to 5 dollars, with season passes available and best seats selling fast.
Youngstown Sheet and Tube stockholders met at 11 a m and adjourned until 8 p m to hear if the Bethlehem Steel merger is approved. Judge Turnbaugh denied an injunction against counting votes on the 1 038 shares showing the vote tally. Proponents say they hold enough shares to win a two thirds majority needed for the merger.
