Amarillo lines up a large reception for William Gibbs McAdoo arriving by Fort Worth and Denver. Judge Palmer reports a near ten thousand turnout with Mrs McAdoo possibly present and Amarillo Democrats optimistic about a record crowd.
National committeeman R B Creager did not obstruct a postal land fraud inquiry but cooperated, his attorney George Hill said as the senate post office committee readies more testimony. Hill will cross examine Rush Simmons and present indictments against James R Page while Heflin and Page prepare additional letters and resolutions critical of land sales in the Rio Grande Valley.
Athens Texas April 9 Deputy State Game Warden V D Turner removed 162 fish nets from Caddo Lake while aiding Louisiana authorities to curb illegal fishing. A large shipment of fish was sent to Dallas for distribution to North Texas hatcheries.
Austin April 9 Thornwell Fay chief executive officer to the receiver of the I. G. N. testified before the railroad commission on the third day of the Coast lines merger hearing. He said the greatest need of the I. G. N. was a rich stepfather and he strongly backed the proposed merger.
Washington notes say the soldier bonus bill will be reported to the senate this week and likely given priority over tax reduction. Senator Smoot said the finance committee will take up the measure tomorrow and aims to report it Friday with a vote expected Tuesday or Wednesday.
Rome April 9 Pope Pius XII decides not to attend the ceremony for the Knights of Columbus building near the Vatican. The move preserves the church’s silent protest over Rome’s 1870 seizure by Garibaldi’s armies. Cardinal Gasparri represents the pope at the event.
Albert I. Beach, Republican, was elected mayor of Kansas City, Missouri, with 66,446 votes to 61,652 for Frank G. Cromwell. Opponents accused Beach of being a Klan candidate, a claim thought to influence the outcome.
Dr. J. C. Hardy president of Baylor Belton college will speak at the Tulsa Baptist Church Wednesday April 16 at 11 o clock. He is touring Panhandle Baptist churches to promote the concluding year of the 75 million Baptist program.
Sen. Burton Wheeler of Montana denounces the indictment as a frameup by the Republican national committee. Wheeler, chief prosecutor of the Daugherty inquiry, faces charges of unlawful money for issuing oil and gas prospecting permits. He is indicted with Gordon Campbell and L. G. Stevenson in Great Falls Montana.

The weather bureau predicts a cold night with continued clouds tonight and tomorrow. A 1 PM reading showed 46 degrees with a low of 40 degrees recorded today.
Unofficial counts from 2,487 of 5,758 precincts show President Coolidge ahead of Sen. Hiram Johnson by 19,684 votes 185,525 to 165,841 in Illinois. In Democratic returns George Brennan's regulars sweep delegates while many voters wrote in Dever and Smith.
McAdoo is the sole presidential choice for railroad men at the Big Four Brotherhoods state convention in Amarillo. A large McAdoo rally is planned at 6 p.m. in the auditorium with delegates and families seated on the first floor. Four convention divisions met in secret to draft resolutions for a joint committee, which will forward them to the final session. The Order of Railway Conductors issued a resolution endorsing McAdoo and urging Texas delegates who send 40 to the national convention to back his candidacy.
Senate oil committee heard J F Baughn of Harlingen Texas say Jake Haroon claimed he signed Harding nomination checks and had motives to back Harding including spending up to one million dollars to win Oklahoma for the Republican ticket. Miller denied receiving funds for hotel bills and being a campaign sub-manager.
Washington April 9 Attorney General Harlan Stone declared upon taking the oath of office that he accepts the appointment as a public duty and to further the cause of clean government under the leadership and with the support of the president.
Washington report shows the average condition of winter wheat on April 1 at 83 percent of normal, implying a total yield of about 549.5 million bushels for the year, versus 572.8 million bushels in 1928. The April 1 condition for rye stood at 83.5 percent of normal.
New York April 9 reports that Sen Hiram Johnson will not quit the Republican nomination bid are unfounded George Payne Johnsons eastern campaign manager stated this afternoon He is satisfied with the progress of the Johnson campaign and dismissed rumors of withdrawal.
George E. B. Peddy of Texas, defeated by Senator Harle B. Mayfield, claims a 1346 vote majority in an uncontested recount conducted by the senate committee. Counsels Luther Nickels and Scott Woodward stated the lead after reviewing the contest.
West Texas areas infected with pink bollworm include Ward Reeves Presidio Pecos El Paso Hudspeth and Brewster counties, state entomologist R McDonald announced today after completing an inspection trip.
The proposals envision two years relief from reparations for Germany funded by a foreign loan and industry tax, Ruhr economic control return, currency stabilization via an 800 million gold mark loan and emission bank, and repatriation of German capital. France would see gradual reparations payments under allied supervision, US would seek reimbursement for four years of American Rhine forces, and the world would gain a settlement to end Europe’s post Versailles turmoil.
Paris reports General Charles G. Dawes presented to the reparations commission a plan to rewrite financial provisions of the Versailles treaty. The Dawes plan calls for a German currency stabilization scheme, a railway management company, an 800 million gold mark foreign loan, and a sliding reparations scale with substantial controls shared by Allies and Germany.
Paris critics assail the Dawes plan with skepticism about success. Pernin a noted critic from the Heho de Paris calls the work unsatisfactory, and Paris press questions the report’s adequacy and execution.
