In Chicago April 5 two women, each claiming to be the wife of William H. Fish, clashed at his bedside as he lay unconscious from self administered poison in St Luke hospital. Mrs Mildred Fish said they married eleven years ago in Pittsburgh and recounted his promotion to poultry shipments chief for the New York Central. Mrs Ida Fish accompanied by officers claimed she was also his wife and said she had been searching for him.
Brest France April 5 The new French cruiser Tourville slipped from the harbor carrying back to his homeland the body of Myron T Herrick former American ambassador to France. The body was placed aboard the cruiser after a Paris funeral train arrived. An escort of a French marine detachment saluted the ceremony was simple as the state funeral in Paris. See Herrick Page 2.

Maltese cat smothered a baby on the farm of Charles Mracek near Alliance Nebraska. The infant, put to sleep by Mracek and his wife, was found dead after they entered the room and saw the cat emerge from the cradle. Authorities investigated the incident as an unfortunate accident on the farm.

The attorney general's department filed damage suits totaling 75000 against Dallas contractors Charles D Barnes and DI Caom McCord and Fidelity Union Casualty Company. The suits allege failure to comply with contracts for work at the Terrell State Hospital and Girls Training School in Gainesville and claim the casualty company received 34625 on one contract and 20144 on the other.
Jacksonville, Florida April 5 Sheriff W B Cahoon intensified his war on a bootlegger ring after deputy Joe Haywood was shot dead near a grade crossing. Haywood, once a federal agent, earned the nickname terror of bootleggers. Fourteen suspects remain in jail as the sheriff seeks the killer and seizes the gun found in Bill Oglesby possession. Bootleg king Dan Hysler was expected to surrender.
The January term grand jury, after 88 session days, returns 53 indictments and urges a new up to date courthouse and jail, a modern home for the poor at the county farm, and a separate witnesses and youths building. It criticizes liquor law enforcement, tax sale practices, pool halls, raffles, and bond forfeitures while commending district attorneys and Sheriff Bill Thompson.
Austin April 5 Judge George Calhoun with 26 years on the 54th District Court is sponsored by the Travis County Bar Association for appointment to the supreme court. A constitutional amendment expanding the court’s membership was passed by the last legislature and signed by Gov Dan Moody and will soon go to voters.
Nathan F. Leopold Sr father of Nathan Leopold Jr who pled guilty to the Franks murder and kidnapping died at Michael Reese hospital after an operation. The elder Leopold had been grief struck by Bobby Franks case and passed away in Chicago.
