A massive storm system across Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas left at least three dead and many injured. Tornadoes damaged buildings in Washington County Arkansas and near Bangs and Santa Anna Texas, while Shawnee Oklahoma saw 6.81 inches of rain in 30 minutes and water up to five feet in parts of town.
In Plainview on April 5 the first annual Texas Panhandle Plains Dairy association convention drew over 15,000 in a windy parade. Delegations arrived from Amarillo Tulia Clarendon and many Panhandle Plains cities with 800 participants plus a high school band led by Col Harve Haines. Judges for Holstein and Guernsey cattle began amid the festivities.
Godfrey L. Cabot Inc plans a second carbon black plant near Pampa Gray county at a cost of 560000. It will produce about 30000 pounds daily using residue gas from Phillips plant eight miles south of Pampa. The Skellytown plant, costing 600000, will expand to five units and 75900 pounds daily. Ground surveyors are on site for construction.
A telephone call to the San Angelo fire department reports four business buildings at Mert 20, west of the city, are burning. No additional details are available.
President Coolidge signed a bill allowing cattle taken into Mexico for grazing to be returned to the United States duty free. The measure aims to simplify cross border cattle movements and reduce tariff barriers for ranchers and livestock trade.
Chauncey M. Depew famed as a long time after dinner speaker and Republican leader dies at his New York home at 93 following a brief illness. He was active as chairman of the New York Central and planned to attend the Kansas City convention. He had attended every Republican convention since 1848 and served two terms in the Senate.
Senator Borah may send the $7,000 collected in his Conscience Fund to relief organizations in the Pennsylvania mine strike region. He indicated the donation could be made immediately, signaling support for workers affected by the dispute.

Campbell says cooperative marketing is a growing national force and Amarillo may host the bureau next year for its ninth annual meeting.
The cross continent marathon party led by C C Pyle and Red Grange arrives in Amarillo beginning a long run into town from noon to midnight. Grange predicts his brother Garland Pinky Grange will make the All American team and shines on track as Illinois intramural champion.
Snow fell to the north and west of Amarillo with two to three inch accumulations along the Rock Island line from Tucumcari to Glenrio. Amarlillo and the Panhandle saw mainly rain, with .10 inch locally. Winds near Hereford were strong with little rain. forecast calls for colder tonight near freezing, then a brief warmup tomorrow.
Ticket sales for Abraham Lincoln the play open Saturday at 9:00 am at the Fair offices 308 1-2 Polk Street for the Tri-State Fair association. John Drinkwater's production will be at the Municipal Auditorium with reservations urged early Saturday.
Russell t. Smith former Sherman High School head coach has been chosen to replace the late Hugh Butler at Amarillo High School. Superintendent W. A. McIntosh announced the assignment and Smith is to report April 16 after leaving Sherman under a two year contract. Smith, 27, helped Sherman to a strong football record and is praised for applying Butler’s successful coaching methods. He is Austin College trained and has a long list of athletic honors and leadership roles from 1923 to 1925.
