Amarillo man C. D. Livingston was named head adviser of the Texas Woodmen of the World as the state convention closed in Fort Worth. Livingston had served three years as manager of the Woodmen of the World.
Two Alaska visitors on a 12000 mile drive stopped in Amarillo during their long journey. Mrs Nachtweih and Mrs Kraft, both from Kodiak, travel with a 1950 car averaging 300 miles per day. They have visited Seattle and New Orleans, with segments by air from Kodiak to Anchorage and on to Seattle.
Mrs Kraft from Jewell Kansas and Mrs Nachtweih from Brandford Ontario recount years in Alaska since 1917 and 1937 respectively. They traveled by boat via outer and inside passages, faced a few peculiar incidents, praised Texas roads, and planned to depart for Alaska again later in April. The narrative blends travel humor with weather and route anecdotes from their journeys.
A three year old girl who had never worked before was brought to the police station in Peterborough Ontario after visiting the national employment offices. She was given a box of popcorn there while waiting for her father. The incident raised questions about the handling of young visitors at the office.
Miss Amelia Anthony founder and director of Girlstown near Whiteface will speak Sunday afternoon in the Amarillo College auditorium. The Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Amarillo invited Miss Anthony to talk to the public with no admission charge. She will describe how Girlstown, the nation’s only project of its kind, began and operates.
