In New Orleans on February 28, the Rex Mardi Gras day parade was canceled due to heavy rain. Rex actor E. R. Dumont and queen Mary Frances Buck attended a private luncheon while thousands of maskers continued celebrating despite the downpour.
A Texas House constitutional amendments committee approved a resolution to repeal the prohibition section of the Texas constitution. The 11 to 3 vote would return the local option method, bar saloons again, and bar possession or sale in dry areas. A 1934 vote on the amendment is planned at the general election.
In Houston on February 28 Reginald the transient cat who earned a permanent job guarding the oatmeal at the unemployment relief commissary was killed on duty last night. Hired after arriving in town on a boxcar he worked efficiently for three weeks. Rats allegedly organized an anti Reginald movement and his body showed he died defending the food entrusted to him.
Governor Ferguson sought the vote tally on F. L. Denison's confirmation as state highway commissioner. The Senate refused to disclose the executive session result, citing privilege. A prior vote was 19 to 11 then 18 to 13, and Denison had taken oath while awaiting legal ruling.
Rumors that Magda Lupescu was about to become a mother were denied today by her friends in Bucharest Romania.

A Taunton Massachusetts man, whose wife feared he planned to go to Washington to kill the President, was taken into custody in Providence. He was unarmed despite the woman's claim he carried a gun.
Regional headquarters for the Girl Scouts moved from Dallas to Amarillo and will operate from Room 22 Johnson Building under Miss Mary White regional director and Miss Alice Mulkey national field training staff. The Cactus Region covers Texas New Mexico Arizona and Oklahoma with about 10000 registered scouts.
The Humble Oil and Refining Company announced price cuts of 6 to 11 cents on Panhandle crude. Gray County tops at 40 cents for high gravity, Carson and Hutchinson Counties to 30 cents for 40 and above gravity, with Jones and Fisher Counties set at 30 cents flat.
