Reports describe across the nation a wave of demonstrations tied to a German conspiracy amid labor actions. U S officials express concern and request measures to curb lawless elements as protests widen from the Northwest to other regions.
In Spokane a Northwest Mining Association resolution asks federal protection against the I W W and other lawless elements. Mining engineer Ross cites 1,100 armed I W W factions facing 1,800 armed farmers in the Yakima district amid West Coast labor strife and suspected German conspiracies.
Hardwick declares dry amendment makes bill unconstitutional as lawmakers spar over alcohol language delaying food control provisions. The debate centers on states rights and constitutional limits while authorities push for tighter food oversight.
The Arizona copper strike tightens as only about 55 percent of district miners report for work. Shattuck mine closes while others run with reduced shifts as deputies round up pickets. No disorder reported as authorities move to protect workers and property. A separate Chicago Loop blast is linked to non union barbers who refused closing time.

In Ottawa Alphonse Verville warned Parliament that organized labor would call a general strike in Canada if conscription were enforced without a majority vote by the people. He said U S labor would back Canada’s action though no strike would occur in the United States. The remark came during debate on the compulsory service bill.
The Ozark Trail convention at Amarillo features four hours of speeches from Central Northern and Western route proponents. Delegates hear state reps from Texas New Mexico Kansas Oklahoma and Missouri while bands and crowds fill the Stop Inn tent as routes vie for official selection.
Rio de Janeiro June 28 Brazil revoked its neutrality by act of congress late in May joining the Entente against Germany. Foreign Minister Nilo Pecanha said Brazil can no longer stay aloof after U S entry and German attacks on Brazil. Canadian troops updated Lens front with gains near Avion and Leauvette advancing toward Lens center as bombardments continued along the Franco-Belgian front.
Corporal James Norman Hall of the Lafayette Flying Squadron, earlier reported killed, survived a German air engagement. He fought fiercely, was wounded through the lung, but managed to guide his machine to safety, cutting fuel to ease landing before fainting.
In the southern Colorado coal region of the Colorado Fuel and Iron company miners plan a strike beginning August 1 unless a settlement on their differences is reached. Jones F Moran president of District No 19 Mine Workers of America announced tonight.
The Elder-Dempster steamer Addah was torpedoed without warning by a German submarine on June 16. The submarine fired on the captain's boat, killing eight men as the vessel sank.
Washington June 28 sweeping reductions in the price of bituminous coal at all mines east of the Mississippi River were agreed upon by operators and government officials. The price cuts range from one to five dollars per ton to the public with a further fifty cent cut for the government and become effective July 1.
In El Paso on June 28 the police mounted a citywide search for Jane Garcia a Mexican suspect linked to the fatal shooting of Patrolman Sid Benson as he escorted an arrestee to the station aboard a city bus.
In San Francisco on June 28 Mrs Nellie Edeau an Oakland dressmaker testified in the murder trial of Mrs Rena Mooney saying she saw Mooney her husband Thomas J Mooney and Warren K Billings on Market Street about half an hour before the preparedness day bomb explosion that killed ten people Superior Judge Franklin A Griffin set July 28 as the arraignment date for Israel Weinberg and Edward D Nolan indicted for murder in connection with the blast.
