A jury in Austin returns a verdict for the state in a suit over more than 500 acres of Hutchinson County oil land, seeking valid title and potential return to state ownership. Six decades of witnesses were survey experts. expected motions for new trial.
Andrew Robinson an American engineer with the Mexican National railroad for 35 years was killed when rebels derailed a passenger train near Vibtorillas en route from Laredo Texas. Two crew were injured and guards contained the attackers with the derailed train. An attempted derailment of the northbound Laredo train was also found with bombs nearby.
Patrick Murphy of Shawnee Oklahoma is held on manslaughter charges after a Roberts Field crash that killed student pilot John G. Ramsay. Coroner J D Russum ruled after inquest with witnesses testifying the men were drinking and that Murphy operated the aircraft in an extremely reckless manner.
Edward F Peters of Cincinnati was elected president of the Co operative clubs international at the annual convention in Memphis Tennessee on June 26.
Wednesday forecast for Amarillo and vicinity calls for fair and warmer weather. West Texas expected to be partly cloudy and warmer. The report notes higher pressure in the Mississippi valley and northeast, with lower pressure over Utah and the eastern Rocky Mountains. Showers occurred along the plains from Oklahoma to the Panhandle. Temperature readings for Amarillo yesterday show highs around 77 and lows around 55 with precipitation of 2.10 inches in the past 24 hours.
In Borger Texas a preliminary hearing was held for N F Salamy of Amarillo on negligent homicide charges in the death of 14 year old Harold Foltz who was struck by a car reportedly driven by Salamy. Salamy listed as married with rooms at 606 North Fillmore Street and connected with Amarillo Wholesale Grocery.
In New York on June 26 attorneys for Dodge Brothers and Chrysler unit sought to block a proposed 250 million dollar merger. They alleged Dillon Read would profit about 13 million. Justice Mullan reserved ruling and noted the suit might belong in Maryland where Dodge is incorporated.
Chicago police report labor leader Big Tim Murphy was shot and killed at his Rogers Park home. An automobile spotlighted him as he exited the basement. attackers used a machine gun in the nighttime ambush. His brother-in-law carried him inside the bungalow while Mrs. Murphy was away.
State leaders from every state attending the All States reunion and free barbecue at Tiard ing's ranch depart the Tri State Fair office at 5 PM for the ranch. Officials will help set state headquarters and a large fireworks preview will occur before the Fourth. Expect attendance to exceed 10 000 with Groom and Canadian sending large delegations. After a half inch in an hour on Monday night, a storm returned before dawn and pushed total rainfall to 2.10 inches with lightning and hail. Amarillo lay in a narrow north-south strip, Texline reported two and a quarter inches. Hail caused minor flower-bed damage but not roof or window harm. Forecasts yesterday and today called for partly cloudy skies, warmer temperatures, with possible showers and fair weather ahead.
Mrs. Hazel Glab aged 29 and her niece Ethyl O. Kaser aged 17 from Oklahoma City were released in Los Angeles on a district attorney motion for lack of evidence after being held since last Wednesday on murder charges in the shooting death of John I. Glab, a wealthy retired Chicago druggist.

Governor Dan Moody and Jesse Jones led Texas efforts at the national Democratic convention as Moody sought a mutually acceptable dry law plank. Jones, exhausted but active, organized convention logistics for Texas delegates and visitors while Texas 49 votes stood ready to back Jones for president. Moody noted callers favored the Beaumont dry plank with possible wording changes as conferees from Georgia Alabama North Carolina and Virginia discussed the platform.

Rome June 27 General Nobile reports the Italia caught fire after a gondola tore off. The airship drifted on the ice cap and a small smoke column was seen. Motor attendant Vincenzo Pomella was crushed to death in the stern gondola and buried by Nobile and companions.
The Amarillo city commission discussed three potential airport sites and made a cash bid on the Wells section tract, 480 acres at 100 dollars per acre with 28 thousand down and the rest by mutual agreement, while two other sites remain under consideration for topography and location. The aviation committee report was received, a renaming ordinance became emergency and will take effect July 1, and new Board of City Development director F. J. McKee replaces Ed Hardin who resigns to Europe. Playground equipment bids for Ellwood park will be tabulated, and the Llano Escade chapter DAR was granted permission to erect "The Doughboy" statue at the city auditorium.
