Johnson Kosygin summit shifts Cold War mood at Holly Bush

Johnson and Kosygin returned to the summit buoyed by a cordial tone and the "spirit of Holly Bush" as they opened talks in Glassboro New Jersey. No major East West agreement emerged though they agreed only on avoiding future grandsons' discord. U S airfield shelled in separate action

U S airfield at Dau Tieng 48 miles northwest of Saigon hit by shellfire just before midnight Saturday. Damage to planes and facilities not yet known. Other U S and North Vietnamese actions noted including rail yards and storage areas bombed, with B52 strikes around Da Nang Khe Sanh Phu My and Thanh Hoa as U S Command reports.

Johnson meets first grandson Lyn at Seton Hospital

President Johnson visited Seton Hospital in Austin to meet his new grandson Patrick Lyndon Nugent nicknamed Lyn. The visit lasted about thirty minutes and included a kiss for Luci Nugent and a $100 savings bond gift. Lyn weighed eight pounds at the time and the president joked he is less concerned with world problems than the baby.

Kosygin Visits Niagara Falls Amid Break in Talks

Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin toured Niagara Falls and the Niagara Power Project during a 24 hour pause in discussions with President Johnson. He rode a sightseeing boat, met Mayor Lackey, and greeted Camp Fire Girls, drawing a 2,000 strong crowd at the base.

Amarillo Rancher T. L. Roach dies at 75 in Amarillo

T. L. Jack Roach 75 of 2600 Washington died Saturday morning at St. Anthony's Hospital after a long cattle career in Donley and Potter Counties. He led Panhandle Livestock Association and Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association and was past president of the Amarillo Stock Show. Born December 25, 1891 in May Texas he married Ozelle Knorpp October 7, 1914 in Groom and belonged to Polk Street Methodist Church. Funeral set for 2 p.m. Monday at Polk Street Church.

In the central highlands of South Vietnam the 173rd Airborne Brigade 130 man company faced three banzai style assaults by an 800 man North Vietnamese battalion. Captain Milton reported 76 dead 24 wounded with about 75 men in three platoons trapped. a relief force arrived 24 hours later. An estimated 475 enemy were killed.

Fiery Sky Plans Completed in City

The 14th annual Fourth of July Fireworks Show at Dick Bivins Stadium, sponsored by Globe News Publishing Co, will feature Amarillo Air Force Base performers including the 589th U S Band and the 3337th Tech School Squadron Drum and Bugle Corps. The 75 minute program by the band led by Ross Whitehead and The Plainsmen under Lt Smalley precedes the fireworks, starting at dusk.

Cop Gets It On the Nose

In Chicago a motorist bit off part of a policeman nose after a traffic stop. Officer John Nalepa and partner Richard Blaay halted Wayne Titler 33 a railroad brakeman for missing license plates. Titler fought and bit Blaay severing the left nose portion. Titler charged with aggravated battery and four traffic tickets. Blaay taken to hospital for possible nose reconstruction.
