An American girl prepares to fly to Southampton as Alfred takes the preferred position over Ritchie. Report notes flight plans and a rescue signal of ten planes flying overhead observing the party.
Near Kings Bay Spitzbergen on June 18 General Umberto Nobile and a handful of companions awaited rescue as two sea planes were seen overhead. Efforts to signal the aircraft and indicate their location continued amid peril on the Arctic ice.
Boyd Jones, 14, rides a pony toward Amarillo to invite President Coolidge to the inter tribal Indian ceremonial at Gallup. He plans to reach Amarillo next Sunday but fears his mother will stop the journey with a barrel stave. His mother, Mrs. Manson Jones, was in Amarillo when he left Gallup.
Two Norwegian aviators Captain Riiser Larsen and Lieutenant Luetzow Holm search north of Spitzbergen for General Umberto Nobile and the marooned party. They return to the ice breaker Braganza without sighting them, but Nobile reports via wireless that one plane passed within two kilometers.
Reconnaissance over Spitzbergen and Beverly Sound failed to locate the Italia crew. Seaplanes under Capt Riiser-Larsen and Lieut Luetzow Holm scouted the area, finding ice too tough for landings but reporting open crevasses aiding ice breakers. Three seaplanes at Tromso expected to assist from tomorrow.
The issued forecast covers Amarillo and nearby areas with Tuesday described as unsettled and cooler. West Texas is generally fair with unsettled Panhandle conditions and cooler north and west portions. New Mexico is expected to remain fair with little temperature change. Temperature readings from Amarillo yesterday show highs near 96 and lows around 63 with varying hourly values.

R W Haynie of Abilene presided as prime minister and Amon G. Carter Jr. crowned the queen.
Detroit June 18 A Northern Baptist resolution denounces blacklists circulated by groups posing as patriots. Rev Chase Gilkey leads. The committee notes improved U S Mexico relations due to Ambassador Morrow and deplores tensions with Nicaragua and Haiti. Budget set at 8 472 585 dollars for the year.
The Anti-Saloon league and prohibition forces will support Herbert Hoover for president if Al Smith is the Democratic nominee. Dr. F Scott McBride, national superintendent of the league, announced the stance in Lincoln Nebraska on June 18.
Minnesota voters in a primary named nominees for the U.S. Senate post held by Dr. Henrik Shipstead. Shipstead was expected to win renomination on the Farmer Labor ticket. The Republican contest featured J. A. Burnquist A. J. Rockne and Arthur E. Nelson. A light statewide turnout was reported.
Two year old Alberto Sandoval drank a large bottle of indelible ink hoping it was soda. His parents rushed him to the hospital where he is under care and recovering.
Amelia Earhart Wilmer Stultz and Louis Gordon arrive by the Friendship in Barry Port Estuary after a 20 hour 49 minute crossing from Trepassy Bay Newfoundland. They plan to head to Southampton next, praising fuel checks amid heavy clouds and rain.
A resident identified as Dobbs Adams shot and killed a patrolman after opening fire on his mother in law a woman friend and stabbing his sister in law. Police tried to arrest him as a mob gathered outside the Springfield station and officers sought to remove Adams from town.
In Philadelphia on June 18 Mary McGinty, 23, answered a maid ad and was choked by the Black chauffeur butler Clarence Tull, 25, who was alone in the home. In the kitchen Tull was found dead from illuminating gas with a public safety item and a razor beside him. A note to a “Good mother and sister” urged self destruction as the body was burned.
German zeppelin builder Dr Hugo Eckner will pilot a dirigible from Friedrichshafen Germany to the Pacific Southwest Exposition in Long Beach California next month. He notified Mayor Oscar Hague who announced the plan and exposition officials said they would seek a portable mooring mast from Panama to anchor the airship.
At Mackinac Island Michigan June 18 speakers opened a four day convention of the Automotive Equipment association predicting the automobile industry will undergo major mergers within five years. The talks also noted entry into airplane servicing as a new field for auto equipment firms.
Frank Vollendorf a grain man from Walla Walla Washington travels to Houston for the Democratic Convention and predicts a Washington landslide for Al Smith in November He argues Hoover’s price control and big business ties alienate farmers and that Lowden would be tougher for farmers. Washington women oppose Hoover and Smith would keep prohibition.
Detroit reporter notes June 18 as Edward Cooney a county building guard seized a bomb and tossed it to a secluded area saving three county judges. He and two other guards were injured and hospitalized. Police arrested two men unnamed.
Madison juried tribute notes Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh awarded an honorary doctor of laws by the University of Wisconsin. President Glenn Frank cites Lindbergh as a global envoy of goodwill and compares him to Benjamin Franklin for his air age achievements and restraint.
Porto Rico June 18 President Barcelo of the senate was wounded with a dagger as he left a city council meeting. The attacker was arrested after being beaten by police.
In Houston on June 18 with the Democratic national convention a week away, leaders departed for Galveston for sea air after a brief run of activity. Senator Reed of Missouri will be first to reach the city Friday, with Governor Smith’s campaign manager set to arrive Tuesday night. Planks favored include DC voting representation and Puerto Rico territorial government toward eventual statehood. Executive committee meetings start Monday to review possible delegational contests.
The Junberg airplane crew Captain Hermann Koehl Major James Fitzmaurice and Baron Gunther Von Huenefeld arrived in Bre men Haven Germany aboard the 8 8 Columbus at 4 a m. They will depart for Bremen for a civic celebration as almost the entire population gathered on the pier and women threw kisses.
