Dutch storm hijacked train and village school freeing hostages

Dutch marine commandos stormed a hijacked train and Bavensmil dee village school near Assen in dawn raids to free 55 hostages held 20 days by South Moluccan gunmen. Six terrorists and two hostages died. four gunmen were arrested and four hostages released unharmed. Two marine commandos were slightly wounded.

Escape mayhem as James Earl Ray breaks Brushy Mountain wall

Assassin James Earl Ray and six other inmates climbed the Brushy Mountain State Prison wall using a makeshift ladder and fled into East Tennessee hills. One inmate was shot and recaptured. Ray and five others remained at large as a major manhunt involved 125 guards, state troopers, county officers, FBI, and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents. Federal assistance was requested by President Carter. Ray, 49, had earlier recanted his plea and sought a new trial claiming he bought the King rifle but did not fire it.

Carter Accuses Solons of Bowing to Oil & Gas

Amin threatens to execute British subject in Uganda

Idi Amin warned Friday that a former British subject held in Kampala would be executed if found guilty of spying. He also said about 300 Britons barred from leaving Uganda would be arrested if found in groups larger than three. Radio Uganda cited the case of Robert Scanlon, a British resident who took Ugandan citizenship in 1975, and who reportedly carried Amin on a sedan chair during a 1975 reception. The Foreign Office identified Scanlon as married with children and said he would be tried and likely executed by end of next week if convicted.

Britain’s fish Jaws outwits trackers and hunters
