United States marines guarding the El Cuero mines near Santiago were attacked by insurgents but repulsed with no marine casualties. A detachment of volunteers was attacked nearby. several rebels were killed or wounded.
The US cruiser Washington entered Havana harbor from Key West followed by the Rhode Island. The collier Mars sails from Key West. Rumors spread of President Gomez resigning over American warship presence. Two more US Marine companies were sent from Caimanera to Guantanamo City and a Missouri battalion unit heads to Baracoa.

H J Cooney testified in the Clarence Darrow jury bribery case. He described duties to warn witnesses to stay out of the state and to notify jurors in time to evade service, as the defense sought to limit his testimony to the Lockwood juror case only.

In Clovis New Mexico a dozen shots rang out in the negro quarters after four white men allegedly dragged a Black man from a cabin and struck him. Four men were arrested and bonded. Morris Sheppard, U S Senate candidate, released a schedule for next week listing visits in Colorado Springs Haskell Stamford Olney Graham Jacksboro and other towns with showings from June 17 to June 22 The candidate noted overwhelming invitations and that many counties will be omitted due to time constraints and pledged to campaign in unvisited areas over the remaining four weeks and six days.

Hartford June 16. John Warren the oldest U S convict in service seeks parole from the Connecticut board of pardons. He is seventy four with fifty three years behind bars after a life sentence for his wife s murder. The board has rejected seven prior petitions and will decide soon on the eighth.
Hale Springs Tennessee June 10 reports say the International Printing Pressmen and Assistants Union may face a leadership challenge at its annual convention. Dissatisfaction follows strikes in Chicago and other cities, with talk of ousting President George S Berry, though Berry supporters deny major plans to depose him.
Plainview Texas reports 125 letters from twenty states reacting to a Farm and Ranch article "Winning Women for the West" that featured a cowboy cut and an unmarried Plains man. Inquiries largely requested the cowboys name and address in Plainview.
Waxahachie Texas June 16 The work of laying steel on the Stone Webster interurban was completed to the Houston and Texas Central crossing on College street Hand labor was required where a track laying machine could not navigate the curve at Brown street and Marvin avenue The steel is now two blocks from the public square

Final tally shows 474 votes for removing the county seat and 498 against, keeping the courthouse in Floydada by 24 votes. Floydada residents celebrate after a heated election that could have moved the seat to the center of Floydada County. Bonds approved for a new modern courthouse will resume as foundation and partial superstructure are in place.
Grover Darnell, five miles northeast of town, was en route to his watermelon patch when a rattlesnake coiled between vines and struck. He fell, breaking his left leg halfway between knee and ankle, then crawled to nearby assistance as his sister aided him until help arrived. The snake slithered away during the ordeal.
Socialists of Runnels county prepare a three days encampment at Ballinger city park with entertainment secured. Dates to be announced as organizers finalize plans and expect a big turnout for the event next week.
Taft secured eighty four delegates from Indiana tonight pushing total to twelve in Indiana and with seventy two southern delegates brings Taft to two eighty five on temporary roll. Roosevelt charged affidavit signed by majority of district delegates claimed he did not vote for Taft. Committee initially refused then admitted the affidavit but said no precedent was set.
The La Follette and Cummins headquarters open as Republican managers plan delegate receptions. Roosevelt leaders vow to bolt if Taft is nominated, amid rumors and arrival of Lindsay of Denver and other adherents at Roosevelt headquarters.
President Taft nominates Hugh Potter to be United States marshal for Wyoming. The appointment was announced from Washington, D.C. on June 10.

A mob of striking waiters confronted an official banquet for visiting German naval officers at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. Police battled the protesters and escorted them to patrol wagons en route to custody.
A monument honoring Hans Nellson Hauge, son of the famed Norwegian reformer, was unveiled on Concordia College campus Moorhead Minnesota. The United Norwegian Lutheran Church of America held ceremonies with a large gathering and official representation from Norway including the bishop of Trondhjem and Hans Nielsen Hauge, a grandson of the reformer.
