The AP Feature Service discusses long standing ties between America and Britain. It notes 150 years of divergent paths with the American President as a powerful official and the British monarch as a ceremonial figure. It predicts a cordial meeting on American soil this week between the two leaders.
Six months of planning culminate in Washington welcoming King George VI and Queen Elizabeth for a 36 hour visit. Officials promise unbroken enjoyment with grand pageantry and police protection as crowds gather along Pennsylvania Avenue and Union parks for the royal arrival at 11 o clock. Secretary Hull and a state department reception committee accompany the royal party from the Canadian border.
One week remains to enter the Typical Father Contest sponsored by Amarillo merchants. Prizes include a complete wardrobe sporting goods and other gifts for the man chosen as Panhandle representative father. Submit a 500 word letter detailing qualifications, attach a photo, and mail to the Globe News entry blank. Entries due by 5 PM June 14 to the Globe office.
Francisco Sarabia, 39, Mexico's leading civilian airman, died four minutes after taking off from Bolling Field on a 1700 mile flight to Mexico. He bade farewell to his wife Agripina and their son Francisco Jr before his biplane plunged into the Potomac in full view of family and fellow aviator Santiago. Mexican embassy officials witnessed the tragedy.
Cermeno the naval attache swam to the partly submerged plane but could not rescue the flier. Sarabia had just set a Mexico City to New York record and his body will be sent home by army plane. Rescue crews salvaged the plane and sawed away part to recover him.
In Clovis the Pioneer Days celebration featured a grand parade led by Gov. John E. Miles, with 200 horsemen filling the hour long procession. Float themes highlighted streamlining and peace, while crowds, bands, and a rodeo filled the day and a three game league series loomed in the evening.

Texas Highway Department bids due June 20 in Austin for asphalt seal coat on Highway 66 from the New Mexico line to Vega. Project covers 36 miles to weatherproof the pavement, with 33.83 miles in Oldham County and 2.17 miles in Deaf Smith County near the northwest corner.
In Cleveland on June 7 a man told reporters the paper misstated his name in marriage license applications. He insisted his correct spelling is Mieczyslaws Dziadosz, not Mieczipylaws Dzecidosz, and asked if friends think he has changed his name.
In Nogales Aziz June 7 Homer Adams 22 lured relatives to a desert trap using a false injury tale. He shot and killed two kin, wounded another, then killed himself after directing Hortencia Gonzalez 17 toward the same fate. Hector Gonzalez survived to tell the tale.
Texas Supreme Court Special Justice Sidney L. Samuels overruled a re hearing by Gus L. Wortham in a long running case over the 100th meridian boundary between Texas and Oklahoma. The dispute concerns 28,000 acres claimed to be public domain and lacking Texas title. a future procedure may grant Texas titles to owners of the disputed lands.
Four Amarillo residents including two Potter County deputies were seriously hurt when their car left a highway near Tulsa and overturned. The group Sam Ramsey Dick Vaughn and Mr and Mrs Cecil Clark were taken to Swisher County hospital with uncertain injury extent. Ramsey was unconscious and critical. Clark may have a broken back. Investigators from Lubock and Plainview examined the wreck.

Robert L. Puckett, a cattleman, remains in critical condition at St. Anthony's Hospital. Attendants said late last night he has been critically ill for several days and unconscious since Sunday.
