Two freak tornadoes tore across Mustang Oklahoma today destroying property and crops but injuring no one. Early estimates place damage across homes barns and fields with recovery crews assessing the scene in the central state.
Mustang Oklahoma residents endured two tornadoes causing up to 200000 in damage to every home in a town of 210. Chickens killed and hog hair plant ruins drew odd reactions from sightseers while four inches of rain flooded areas near Duncan and Oklahoma City. Highway patrolman Ira Walkup notes hail worsened damage as the storms moved through southwest Oklahoma.
The No. 1 Bessie Wisenhunt well seven miles northeast of Mineola Texas in the Woodbine sand shows 85 feet of saturated sand. If test results prove out, up to 25 million barrels could be recovered with potential for much more. Lease prices surged to 1000 per acre in last week’s rush as British American and Ryan Consolidated advance the discovery toward three more weeks of testing.
A 16 year old, John Enix, drowned in Cottonwood Creek about nine miles northeast of Amarillo. He was a Horace Mann Junior High student who would join Palo Duro High School this fall. He swam with Mike and Jack Moore, brothers, who were with him at the LX Ranch swimming hole. Attempts to revive him failed after he disappeared underwater in 10 to 12 feet of water.
