Miss Irene White aged 32 died in an Amarillo hospital at 1 o'clock Sunday morning from injuries suffered in a Wednesday night automobile accident near Memphis. Her uncle J. W. Jones of Amarillo was killed instantly. Funeral services set for 2 PM at Griggs funeral chapel with Rev. O. M. Addison officiating. Interment in Llano Cemetery. Survived by her mother Mrs. Lou E. White of Amarillo and two brothers Don and Charles White. Pallbearers: Robert Rollings Claude Jones Loyd Victor Sam Walker Lex Ray Wood King.
East ham prison farm captain John Eastham leads pursuit of Paul Humphreys, 24, a Fort Worth forger and robber who escaped Christmas night. Humphreys was serving six years for six forgery counts, sentenced from Tarrant County on June 24, 1937.
New York on Christmas night reports a gas leak in a dingy Hudson River flat. A mother and her two young sons died after the child Richard wandered through a silent home and could not awaken the parent. Neighbors found the scene hours later, with scraps of unfinished notes to her estranged husband.
