Telephone Strike Averted in Southwestern Bell Deal

Regent Washington December 23 AP thirteen CIO union officers were listed as Communists by the House Un American Activities Committee. Gov Beauford H Jester in Austin announced reappointment of three UT Board of Regents members for six year terms ending Jan 10 1955. David M Warren of Panhandle Dudley K Woodward of Dallas and Mrs Margaret Batts Tobin of San Antonio were named for new terms. Warren will accept the appointment and continues efforts to raise journalism standards at the university.

Dr. Robert Allingham of Denver visited Amarillo during a semi annual trip and hurried to Borger to meet his two week old grandson Bruce Craig son of Donald and Borger resident. His son Paul runs the Rocky Mountain Churchman in Denver. The grandmother Mrs. Allingham has spent two weeks in Borger.

German minister Bertsch given life term in Prague

Dr Walter Bertsch former German minister of economy in occupied Czechoslovakia was sentenced to life imprisonment. He previously sent all 20 year olds to Germany to work in war factories. The ruling came in Prague on December 23.

Standstill in China as weather halts fighting

The Chinese civil war reduced activity to a standstill with bad weather north of Nanking. Government defenses were strengthened along the Yangtze while sieges around Peiping and Tientsin continued.
