Fireman Killed in Santa Fe Train Collision Near Clovis NM

W Becker of Slaton Texas died and W E McAlister was injured when Santa Fe passenger train 918 and freight train 933 collided in heavy snow at Lariet switch 21 miles southeast of Clovis New Mexico. Engineer Henry Prince was also hurt. Conductor Shannon aided responders. Relatives of Becker were not yet located.

Pershing Sails Through Rhine Occupation Tour In Germany

General John J. Pershing, commander of the American forces, slept in a castle near Neuwied after crossing the Rhine by pontoon bridge at Coblenz. He toured division headquarters, rode to Treves and Chaumont, and returned to Coblenz before leaving by special train for Chadmont via Luxembourg and Verdun.

Returning transports bring 6 023 troops home for Christmas

The transport George Washington returns to New York with 6 023 troops including 968 sick and wounded who receive honorable discharge papers aboard. The Cedric from Liverpool carries 2 168 enlisted men and 45 officers arriving earlier to a warm welcome. A Christmas celebration aboard the George Washington distrubed the discharges by chaplain Bloomhardt and Santa distributed papers after carols. The attorney general announced removal of most entry and movement restrictions on German enemy aliens effective Christmas day under presidential instructions. Red Cross Christmas Roll Call Nears Twenty Million

Approximately 14,000,000 members had enrolled by sixty percent of chapters when the Red Cross annual Christmas drive ended. If momentum holds, total enrollment would exceed 20 million. May's Ship to Be Escort for Daniels Parade

The returning overseas battle fleet of nine superdreadnoughts, led by the Pennsylvania, will escort Secretary Daniels aboard the presidential Maryflower yacht to New York Harbor for the great peace review on Thursday morning.
