Mrs. Helen Carroll, a lively booster and field representative for the state publicity department, spoke at a West Texas Chamber of Commerce district meeting in Amarillo. She praised the event as wonderful and expressed confidence in Charles Rositer’s continued involvement.
U S agents split forces between tracing secret trails for Caleb Jones Milne the fourth and questioning him as the Philadelphia heir recovers. Milne recalled four men luring him into a car in New York last Saturday and holding him four days. Agents search for a rural hideout while focusing the hunt in the Philadelphia area.
P T Norton Jr 29 of Calvert, a junior attorney for the Federal Securities and Exchange Commission with offices in Fort Worth, died after falling from his tenth floor Rice Hotel room. An inquest verdict was withheld pending more investigation. Associates noted he had been despondent and ill at times, saying he did not know what it was all about.
Isadore Blumenfeld nicknamed Kid Cain indicted by a Hennepin County grand jury on first degree murder in the Walter Liggett slaying. An additional suspect unnamed in the indictment was also implicated. Blumenfeld remains at large while Mrs Liggett and Wesley Andersch testified before the jury. Andersch reaffirmed his story after a prior statement.
The West Texas Chamber of Commerce accepted free space in the agricultural building for a Panhandle exhibit at the Texas Centennial. Wilbur C. Hawk, WTCC District 1 director, called the meeting at Her ring Hotel crystal ballroom, where 36 towns were represented and 22 of 29 district directors attended. D. O. Bandeen outlined plans for a ten unit display and appointed a committee to prepare materials for the exhibit.
Patti Jo Kincade eight daughter of Mr and Mrs A W Kincade of 2606 Hughes Street has been unconscious for 46 days after a head injury from a highway crash near Texarkana in which her parents were hurt. Texarkana hospital attendants say she shows slight improvement and may recover. Mr Kincade is president of West Texas Mortgage and vice president of First National Bank.
Washington Dec 20 Senator Thomas D Schall of Minnesota remained in very critical condition after being struck by a car, marking the third Senate member injured in a mishap since last spring. Doctors issued the latest hospital bulletin while unofficial notes indicated his condition had not improved since noon.

Representative Marvin Jones named principal candidates Hill ery Wayne Belles Amarillo Alton Donnell of Canyon and Oval H Robinson Childress for admission to the United States Military Academy at West Point next July. Alternate candidates Sam H Barrow Clarendon William F McLean Hereford Robert Ayers Nichols Clarendon and Ferndale J Hayes Clarendon also designated. All will take entrance examinations in March.
In San Francisco on December 20 a special entry permit was granted to Toyohiko Kagawa, Japanese pacifist and social worker, allowing him seven months in the United States as a visitor. Immigration officials had detained him at Angel Island for health regulation reasons and would release him upon formal Washington instructions. The decision followed President Roosevelt’s request to speed action by the State Labor and Treasury secretaries at a cabinet meeting. Dr Eugene W Potter, president.
In Littlefield on December 20 the city precinct 4 election passed 184 to 61 to permit beer and liquor sales within city limits. Polls opened to light turnout with 40 ballots cast after morning apathy. The election was ordered by Lamb County commissioners after a 135-signature petition.
Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce secretary-manager Wiburn Page reported to Mayor Ross D. Rogers that 250 to 300 Wichita Falls fans will come by a special train. Motorists are asked to meet at the Capitol Hotel by 1 15 pm to transport visitors to Butler Field, with a march planned from the Fort Worth and Denver at noon and a welcoming delegation at the station.
Amarillo's Golden Sandstorm and Wichita Falls' Coyotes enter the state high school semi final at Butler Field. The winner advances to face Greenville Lions for the Texas championship next week. Greenville's power display yesterday adds zest to the game this afternoon.
A special train with 450 Wichita Falls High School Coyotes supporters will depart Wichita Falls for Amarillo early Saturday and arrive at noon. The train carries the pep squad of 80 girls, provided by merchants, and the Coyote Band of 40. A large auto caravan is also expected for the 240 mile trip amid fair weather.
Coyotes aim to rival Greenville and Edge as they arrive amid talk of a rugged Wichita Falls team. Fans anticipate a thrilling game with a defensive, fighting spirit after two practice sessions in Pampa. A special train brings Wichita Falls supporters, heightening the tense pregame atmosphere.
Winter wheat plantings for 1936 were reported by the Department of Agriculture at 47,529,000 acres, 6.7 percent above last year’s average. Abandonment of seedings stood at 304 percent of the sown area for 1934, 21.3 percent for 1933, with a 10 year average of 12.6 percent. December 1 conditions were 78.2 percent of normal, versus 77.8 last year.
A new oil well near Governor Marland’s mansion in Oklahoma City pumps an estimated 13,647 barrels daily. The well, owned by British American Oil Co, caused audible gas and drew state officials into debate on leasing state land east of the mansion to protect state interests. The well was shut in late today as engineers assess drainage potential.
In a militant death wake for discarded peace proposals, Britain rallied friendly powers to assure quick aid if its Mediterranean warships are attacked. Dispatches from London and Paris say France, Turkey, Greece and Yugoslavia have promised aid, aiming for a united front of collective defense by the League.
Mrs. P. A. Crismell 83 Motley County resident died at 12 20 PM Friday after being struck by an automobile driven by Charlie Scaff 15. She stepped toward the car while crossing a street en route to her daughter Mrs George Burchfield’s home following a neighbor visit.
Cloudy conditions with a chance of light rain on Saturday across Amarilla and vicinity. West Texas to the 100th meridian shows occasional rain Saturday. New Mexico remains unsettled with little temperature change, and hours of yesterday show varied readings.

The arresting mystery centers on Todds carbon monoxide death after her split from Roland West, with questions about their romance and possible despondence explored by prosecutors.
Deaf Smith County appoints W. M. Stewart as county judge succeeding C. W. Humble who resigns with county agent Dewey Reed. Humble and Reed will report to regional soil conservation offices in Amarillo on December 26. Reed’s successor to be named Monday. Stewart has 28 years of residency and prior two terms as county commissioner. Humble served 11 years as vocational agricultural agent and judge. Reed came to Deaf Smith in 1933 as county agent.
