Official returns show three pro-German groups gaining 63.9 percent of votes but short of a 75 percent majority needed to push union with West Germany. The Associated Press counts 44 violent deaths from Friday 6 p.m. to Sunday night in Texas. Two major crashes on Sunday kill seven, including four in a head on collision near LaGrange. Victims include Woodrow G. Davis and his wife, Norman Daigle, Richard Burlin, and Fort Worth residents W H McCash and daughter Mary Margaret, plus Sandra McDuff and Edwin Dannelley.
Five members of the Dumas family were injured in a crash on Highway 287 near Clarendon at 6 30 am. Mrs Daniel Lee Curry of 902 Meredith Dumas suffered a fractured knee and possible head injuries. The Curry driver and three children were treated and released. The Adams pickup driver, Carl B Adams 70, had leg and head injuries. Sheriff Truitt Behrens investigated. both vehicles were demolished.
