Slaying of Constable Hutson Ends in Carson County

Borger police officer Ben Chapman is jailed in Potter County after the slaying of Hutchinson County constable Lee Hutson on a dirt road between White Deer and Borger. Hutson was shot in the back of the head after a car stop ordered by Chapman.

Missing Man Awakens, Returns To Car In Downtown Streets

A man was found unconscious in a icy intersection at Tenth Avenue and Georgia Street. A White laundry truck driver, Tom Turpin, stopped at Northwest Texas Hospital and later the man asked to be taken to his car. The mystery ended when the man woke and directed the driver back to his parked vehicle.

Bloody Clothing Key Clue in Evelyn Taylor Slaying

Officers linked bloody clothing from Oct 30 to the tunnel death of Evelyn Lucile Taylor. Three Mexicans, who knew the girl from a East Tenth Avenue dance, were arrested. A coat found on the body was identified as hers. Investigators plan a thorough autopsy and careful questioning continues to resolve how the teen died and why the body remained hidden.

Drunken Driving Charge Filed In Lefors Fatal Crash

W F McDowell of Borger faced drunken driving charges in Pampa justice court after a Lefors crash that killed Mrs J Fred Smith of McLean. McDowell surrendered following a rumor of a hit and run and said he stopped to aid at the scene. He was held on a 1500 bond as the investigation noted a flat tire caused the incident near the North Fork of Red River bridge. Funeral services for Mrs Smith were set for 2 30 this afternoon at the Church of Christ.

Farm Bill Cost Out Defeated in Senate Vote

In Washington December 14 administration leaders won a fight in the Senate against Senator Vandenberg s amendment to cap the farm bill cost at 500 million dollars yearly The proposal drew heavy opposition and was voted down with nine Democrats voting for the limit while several Republicans independents and farmer laborers opposed it The bill would continue to be funded only by available revenues as stated by the current text

In Wheeler on December 14 the trial of Eugene Bearrow halted as defense rested after a 12 year old described the fatal beating of Wilbur Nixon. Key witnesses included Clifford Natall Lindsay Davis Lee Bowen and Ralph Cartwright with details of an automobile ride party and blood on Bearrow. Japan offers apologies and compensation over Panay attack
