Waldorf Astoria Faces Fire Watch For Fire Reporting Faults

New York December 7 AP The Fire Department placed a special fire watch at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel amid accusations of underreporting fires. About 3 000 rooms, seven firemen stationed 6 p m to 2 a m since Monday, floor by floor inspections, and a warning that guests could be burned like Bowery residents. A Waldorf comment was not immediate.

Youth admits murder of NAACP official in Texas

In Gonzales Texas a 15 year old boy confessed to killing Herbert Johnson 58 longtime NAACP leader of Schulenburg. Officers say motive centered on the $17 Johnson carried or a family quarrel dating two years. The youth L C Henry is related to Johnson through his grandfather and Johnsons kin disputes are noted by officials.

Property On Expressway Is Purchased Near Canyon

A. B. Hunsley bought 36 acres from J. M. Daugherty for about 15 000 dollars, securing land needed for right of way along the Canyon Amarillo expressway in Randall County. The tract includes a 7 room house, 2 story barn, and two large chicken houses, with Daugherty retaining improvements. Property values along the route are rising, with recent land sales of 260 to 375 dollars per acre in 1954.

Missing Woman Appears in Court in Texas Trial

In Waco, ex-wrestler known as Nature Girl testified that Harry L. Washburn offered $10,000 to kill Helen Harris Weaver. Adella Heninger described plans to lure Weaver to a ranch near San Angelo to show his gun collection and shoot him by accident. Amarillo Opens New Police Administration Building

The Amarillo police administration building on Pierce between 6th and 7th avenues will be dedicated today at 2 p.m. Public inspection runs 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow. Mayor Art Jordan invites residents to tour before the Police Department starts operations tomorrow.

Man Holds Family at Gunpoint in Sackett Kentucky

Randell L. Collins barricades himself inside a Sackett house with his mother, father, and wife. Police Chief Oda Amburgey says Collins is armed with a shotgun and possibly a revolver and warned he would go down fighting if a capture attempt is made. Collins, recently released from Eastern State Hospital, is not believed to be a mental patient. No action expected until Letcher County officials weigh in.

SeaMaster Seaplane Explodes During Test Flight

The Navy SeaMaster jet seaplane exploded over Chesapeake Bay during a test flight. Four aboard included Maurice Bernhard of Towson and Lt Cmdr Victor Atgoff of Piney Point. one body recovered. Sections sunk in 50 to 65 feet of water near the Potomac mouth. another blast followed the nose impact. Navy and Glenn L. Martin Co. officials listed the aboard and noted the loss of navigational and bombing installations. Eyewitnesses reported heavy black smoke before the explosion.

Christmas Parade Route Announced by Amarillo Officials

The Amarillo Jaycees and City Commission announce a parade route for Saturday starting at 9 30 a m at 1st and Taylor. The procession travels Taylor to 10th then Polk to Ist and Polk where it disbands enhancing viewing space for youngsters.
