Kidnapping of Betty Jane Foster Shocks Indiana Farm Community
In Valparaiso Indiana on August 24 10 year old Betty Jane Foster was abducted from her farm home by Claude Dillinger a former farm hand. A wide search by farmers and sheriff's deputies followed. Dillinger lured the children with a ride then forced Betty Jane to stay as two other girls escaped to notify their hosts. Dillinger left a threaten note before fleeing.

Blood stains on car found near Brick Oklahoma

Fire Destroys Temple Ellis Building And Mill In Lubbock
About 11 oclock Saturday night lightning struck two Lubbock buildings causing a fire loss around 215 000. The four story Temple Ellis structure housing J C Penney and professionals was gutted while a nearby mill owned by W K Dickinson and D R Crouch was destroyed. Penney stock and offices appeared lost though some equipment and records were saved. The warehouse did not burn and the elevator nearby was not endangered. The blaze prompted concurrent firefighting efforts from the city department. Temple Ellis owner Lubbock Mercantile plans to rebuild a fireproof structure.
