Brooklyn restaurant owner David Kahan, 54, was charged with kidnapping himself after police report he held himself prisoner since last Thursday in a Hudson farmhouse. His employee Dominick Inittocchi, 39, acted as a mysterious money collector and was arrested with him.

Austin August 3 Jack Flynn state labor commissioner said he would seek a federal court order padlocking establishments of employers found guilty of violating or evading the National Recovery act code. He has ordered an investigation of complaints that firms display the NRA banner yet do not observe the code. If proven the padlock action will be used to compel compliance or removal of NRA emblems.
Opal Pearl Phillips aged 3, daughter of Percy Phillips of Long Beach California, fell into a cistern while playing at the Guy R Wood home near Logan and drowned. The body was sent to Long Beach for burial.
The recovery administration reports half of U S workers have been touched by the new industrial program as efforts target railroads and coal mines. Dr E A Johnston, 83, pioneer Amarillo physician and surgeon, died Wednesday afternoon after a three month illness. He practiced 54 years, 32 in Amarillo, and retired five months ago due to ill health. Survived by widow Virginia, two daughters Mrs Curtis of Amarillo and Mrs Gowin of Sioux City IA, and son EF A Johnston Jr of Oklahoma City. Funeral services pending.
