The Brewster County Road Bond Election produced a ten to one landslide in favor of the bond issue. J. E. Casner urges unanimous support for maintenance of the highway in November, noting a favorable offer from the Highway Department tied to military route needs and border proximity.
The Marathon Fold area sees continued leasing by major companies and independents from Crockett to Irion counties. The Texas Company acquired 10,069 acres near Sheffield Terrace in Crockett County, with 14,000 acres leased farther north. Major firms such as Pure Oil Humble Oil Magnolia and Marathon Fold Lease Syndicate appear in the growing leasing map as geological teams report favorable outlooks ahead of any tests.
In Mitchell County one test is promised soon with Crockett expected to be tested. The Carterest Oil Company has announced its intention to drill and other major lease owners may follow with additional tests.
A wedding took place at Alpine Catholic Church Thursday morning at 7 30. Sr Gregorio Marrufe married Senorita Aurleia Olivas with Padre M Giran officiating. A breakfast and substantial dinner followed. The church was nicely decorated and many Americans attended. Catholics report progress including a new rectory and an almost finished parochial school expected to attract families from various denominations.
The recently opened Mexican side mine below Dryden near Shafter's Crossing was closed due to a property title dispute. Workers had built a road from the river to Dryden and planned to ship ore containing gold silver and platinum, a potential asset to the community.
The Inter state Commerce Commission grants The Orient road permission to charge higher freight rates between local points with no competition. Alpine is unaffected by the decision.
A dense schedule lists morning and afternoon sessions with devotions, Bible school topics, commUnion, reports from Alpine Barstow Grandfalls Fabens Fort Stockton Marfa Pecos Toyah Valentine El Paso Ist. Austin Park and scattered disciples. Evening programs include CBE work and a convention sermon with closing benediction.
