Juanita Vasquez the 12 year old Mexican orphan burned last December is released from Hotel Dieu hospital in El Paso. Mrs Sibyl Rooney says she can walk but remains crippled with scarred body. Mitchel Joins Geological Survey Office In Alpine

This week Mitchel joined the U S Geological Survey office in Alpine coming from San Marcos. Jim DeCook geologist who arrived weeks ago is still on sick leave. A water survey is to be made for Brewster County and Mr Mitchel will work in the Marathon area.

The Photo Color Lampshade Shop operated by Bill Smithers will open a new display room adjoining the current quarters. Lamps of all sizes will be shown in the expanded space. The northern area will house Mr. Smithers wholesale business and shade printing, to be finished in the new quarters.

Alpine hosts a two day open house October 3 and 4 showcasing a Bell Laboratories solar battery that converts light directly into electric current. Drilling Urged For Four Test Holes Near Sunny Glen

R T Littleton of Austin the state water expert urged drilling at least four more test holes around the Daugherty well in Sunny Glen. City officials including Ashley Classen and County Judge Felix McGaughy attended the session. Littleton warned he cannot guarantee permanent water but sees ample supply for several years.

Alpine Display Courses Begin October Fifteenth

Alpine merchants enroll in University of Texas training courses sponsored by the Alpine Chamber of Commerce. The Merchandise Display class meets Monday to Thursday for two weeks beginning October 15 at 7 30 p m, Show Card Lettering begins at 8 30 p m the same evenings. Instructor W G Bohannon brings practical retail art experience. Course covers display techniques layout color lighting and window backgrounds with miniature window practice. Fee for both courses is 3 per person with supplies included.

Rotary Governor Dowdle to Visit Alpine Club

Rotary Inter national District 170 Governor George A. Dowdle of Deming New Mexico will visit the Alpine Rotary Club on September 26 and 27. He will meet directors and committee chairs Wednesday evening and address the club at noon Thursday. Dowdle, a former Deming mayor and Texas native, will be accompanied by Mrs. Dowdle.
