Alpine officials and patrons filled the big public school auditorium Tuesday morning for the opening of the new session. Superintendent Melton urged cooperation and spoke of moving beyond prewar conditions toward better moral and educational gains. President Marquis of Sul Ross Normal and President Jackson of the School Board offered remarks, praising faculty and urging a positive, forward course.

Mexican Family Murder Near St. Helena Reported
A Mexican family headed by Natividad Madril and including his wife and two children were found dead in their home across the river from St. Helena. Gunshot wounds suggest homicide. the crime likely occurred Thursday, with a supposed “neon” Mexican suspect. J L Sublett of St. Helena, in Alpine Monday, relayed news of the killings about three miles below the Sublett place.
