The National Defense Fair sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce drew about 3000 attendees despite rain. C of C officials said the event was a great success and weather prevented reaching a 6000 goal, according to Marvin Kay the general.

Fall From Horse Fatal to Woman Near Marathon
Mrs Lynn Collins Sharp 26 of San Antonio died after a fall from a horse on a ranch 15 miles southeast of Marathon. She succumbed at Brewster County Memorial Hospital in Alpine a few hours later while visiting the Forker Gate Ranch belonging to the Spradley family.

Former Alpine Residents Injured In Car Crash Near Fabens
Joe Larky Rodriguez and Rita Molinar, former Alpine residents, were injured when their car struck a post near Fabens on Monday September 4. They were hospitalized at Hotel Dieu in El Paso.
