First Group of Naval Aviation Cadets Finish Elementary Course Here
The first group of naval aviation cadets, sent here mid July, completed their elementary training last weekend and left Monday for further training at other schools. Ten cadets trained at Sul Ross College and Casparis Flying School Starns Field. The Navy V-5 group posted the highest CAA exam record since 1939. A second group of ten is expected this week. Local students may report Tuesday Sept 8 to join the Navy air school starting that day.

Local FFA Boys Start Lamb Feeding For February Shows
Alpine chapter FFA boys will feed about 75 lambs in two to three weeks for the local and El Paso shows in late February. Many lambs are donated by ranchmen, with profits to be invested in war stamps and bonds. The plan supports patriotic duty and promotes Brewster county livestock advertising. Watchman Services to Continue in Alpine After Meeting
A Alpine chamber of commerce committee reported this week that the night watchman service will be continued. The group reviewed current fund contributors and sought higher payments to balance costs, with each merchant paying according to risk. P. T. Record rainfall reachs new monthly high in 1941 area
Last month total rainfall reached 7.18 inches, boosting the year’s August rainfall to 7.18 inches, the wettest on record in the Sul Ross college region. The season’s total stood at 12.76 inches, about normal for the area. Rain fell across the Biz Bend-Davis mountains, stimulating rapid grass growth and a likely good winter feed crop, though grama was heading out in knee-high patches.
