Soaking Rains Boost Alpine Region To New Seasonal Total
Soaking rains across the Alpine area last Friday through Sunday brought 1.04 inches, lifting the year to about 30.20 inches. Heavy showers fell in the Big Bend-Davis mountains, with a deluge near Fort Davis and Limpia Creek roaring, causing highway and property damage while temperatures dropped to near frost levels amid late week fog and mist.

Last weekend Fort Davis endured torrential rains that caused Limpia Creek to rise to the highest flood levels since 1686. Five concrete bridges were overwhelmed, with debris and whirling waters flooding the area. Funeral services for C A Ament held in Alpine
Charles A. Ament, 53, died of a heart attack in Marfa on Thursday while en route to El Paso. Funeral rites were conducted Friday at 4 p.m. at Akers Funeral Home chapel in Alpine, with Rev. G W F McKinney and Rev. E B Isaacks presiding. Interment followed at Elm Grove cemetery. Ament, born Feb 3, 1888 in Deming New Mexico, had resided in Alpine 13 years and served in World War I with the American Expeditionary Forces. Pallbearers were Carl Shults, George Koury, Gordon Griffin, John Gillett, Frank McCollum, and Bill Doris. Out-of-town relatives present included sons Gene and Herman Gilbert of Houston and sister Mrs Garland Mellard of Andrews.

Final disposition of land case expected early year
Arguments on the appeal from a Travis county district court ruling denying an injunction for State Rep. A. H. King of Throck for land for the proposed Big Bend National Park were heard by the Third Court of Civil Appeals in Austin last Saturday. Final appraisal will include improvements. Appellate court decision is expected within weeks, with a possible Supreme Court review if needed, and a hoped-for injunction settlement by year’s start.
