John Gillett confirms C. E. McCool originated the Alpine Lumber Co. motto We Put Pine in Alpine set in 1915. The tale runs through other notes about Alpine Texas and a dress shop across from the lumber yard. A brief local column also mentions a burro and weather chatter as light filler.
