Navigator Gets Wings at Army Air Forces School
Reuben F. Allen son of Mrs Alice Allen Marfa and W C Allen Haskell graduated from the Army Air Forces Navigation school at Hondo on Saturday Oct 17 receiving a commission as second lieutenant. Allen was raised in Alpine and earlier ran a service station here and later at Marto. His mother pins navigator wings while his wife Ella Dee watches.

Mrs Pearl Glasscock aged 4 and wife of Henry D Glasscock died late Monday in an El Paso hospital where she was taken Sunday. Surviving are the husband four brothers S L Miller El Paso W M and Coy Miller Marshall E E Miller McClellan Field Calit and a sister Eunice Cornelius of Orange Texas. Funeral services were held yesterday at Akers Funeral Home chapel with Rev Ray McGrew officiating. Interment was at Elm Grove cemetery.

Jail breaker ends life to void capture
Arrest in Alpine of two men and a woman followed a jail break in Marfa. One man shot himself near Fort Davis when confronted by officers, ending a crime spree begun in Colorado Springs and continuing through New Mexico and Texas. The trio, including Joseph Edward Day and Farrell alias Foran, had robbed liquor stores and a drug store from Colorado to New Mexico before the fatal confrontation near the Rockpile, 65 miles north of Alpine. The woman Patricia Marie Brock provided details to District Attorney Alan Fraser after surrendering.
