A speech urges residents to support the November 4 vote to fund roads and secure federal money for the Robt. E. Lee highway. It stresses personal debt to the community, calls for joining local organizations, and asks readers to participate in efforts to improve schools, churches, and town facilities through collective action and civic groups.
Clyde Buttrell bought 500 head of stock cattle from the Pruett Bros named the C. A. Brown herd. He has taken possession of the 22,000 acre Ranch located about 12 miles north of Hovey. Alpine will be his trading point, pleasing many friends who wish him success.
Alpine High was defeated by Marfa High 8 to 6 in a well played baseball game. Umpires were Ray M. Camp of Alpine and J. E. Conner of Marfa. Marfa led early, Alpine tied, and in the later innings Marfa scored twice to secure the win. Players noted include Maria Howard, Mitchell, Yates, Weakley, Edwards, and Pruett. The Alpine College audience cheered as players behaved with sportsmanship.
Deeds recorded here show Commonwealth Bank and Trust Company and J C Terrell of San Antonio convey 73000 acres in central Brewster County to Joe M Graham of Del Rio for 189000 dollars. The land adjoins Graham’s extensive holdings and this sale marks one of several large county deals in progress.
The Alpine High School Parents Teachers Association hosted a social evening presided by Mik A J Tipki, with Mr GAL Brown praising cooperation between parents and teachers. The school glee club performed to applause while exhibits filled the left wing and a domestic science punch in the right wing delighted attendees.
J C Gambrano of El Paso arranged a deal with S Ferris to purchase A G & Co stock. The Alpine store will be renamed El Paso Store with Cazares as general manager. He will relocate his family to Alpine soon and bring years of mercantile experience to the new venture. The community welcomes the change and hopes for success.
A Teller dated Oct 20 by Frank Ashton notes a man on the job subscribed his dollar for one year’s membership, including both Mexicarts and An licans. Brewster is going phew.
The Avalanche invites readers to hear Rev C K Campbell at the Methodist Church Sunday at 11 am. He will preach and administer the sacrament and deliver an address at the teens service at the Baptist church nearby. The paper praises his past sermons and urges attendance.
On Monday at 8 p.m. the Liberty Bell and school bell will ring to signal Red Cross recruitment. Workers in four wards will begin enrollment for the third Red Cross Christmas roll call. The note invites participation, urging a 25e contribution.
Benj F GW P E Gillett Com urges unanimous support for a 35000 bond issue to fund city improvements including fire protection and sewer projects. He argues the measure will attract new investors and residents, noting recent fires and the AG's approval limits.
