Poplar Couple Weds Quietly in Alpine and Marathon Return
Pies Chambers and Miss Jox Shoemake, a popular local couple, quietly married in Alpine Saturday morning then returned to Marathon for their future home. Alpine friends showered them with rice as they boarded the train. Friends extend well wishes for a happy life. Ed Morris of Longfellow visits his mother Mrs Crawford this week in Lebo. Champers returns to the ranch after a visit with home folks. Mrs R B Woods of Tampa Ariz visits Mrs Crawford this week. Miss Paloma Harris attended Hagenbeek Wallace Show at Marfy Teesday afternoon. He goes to work near El Paso Monday. Lillian Marshall, who has been ill, is able to be in school again this week. Francis J Marley, ore inspector of International Mining Co, leaves Thursday for El Paso San Francisco Los Angeles and other Western California locations.

Soldier killed in Rio Grande truck accident near Marathon
A soldier stationed on the Rio Grande River was instantly killed last Sunday afternoon while en route to Marathon for supplies. Privates Winzle and Keller were with him in the truck. The fatal crash occurred about 50 miles from town when he lost balance, fell under the wheels, and his head was crushed. The driver could not stop in time, then backed up and moved the body to town. A sergeant from Marfa transported the body, and Marathon residents sent floral tributes. The deceased leaves a wife in Marfa Texas, with mournful prayers for strength.
