Gift and Paint Center to Open November Fifth
The Gift and Paint Center at 302 E. Holland plans a Thursday November 5 opening, owners Rex Ivey Jr. and Francis Miles say. A modern display room is being built in the front tier of the former Ritter siding, with the rest of the structure redecorated for the new firm which will handle gifts of all kinds. Miles formerly operated the Paint Pot and merged with the new partnership.

Four Boys Injured in North Ith Street Scooter Crash
At 9 0 p m Sunday two motor scooters collided in front of J O Casparis home on North Ith Street injuring four boys. Ross Skelton 14 suffered a compound fracture and multiple finger breaks and remained in Brewster County Memorial Hospital. Jimmy Justice 14 had cuts bruises and a cracked arm. Jimbo Parker 15 endured severe ankle injuries and a cracked bone. Ronnie Minica 15 incurred a broken knuckle and foot cuts. Skelton and Parker remained hospitalized while Justice and Minica were released earlier.

City completes Carpenter Addition sewer line ahead of schedule
The city finished an 8 inch clay pipe sewer project in the Carpenter Addition early to assist new builders and meet FHA requirements. It sits 7 feet deep to allow low level bathroom installation and serves a wider area west of the Fort Davis Highway. Antelope hunting season opens in Trans-Pecos region
Big Group Hunters expected in Davis Mountains country for a 10 day season starting Sunday November 1. Alpine Chamber of Commerce official Pete Bishop says motels and hotels will fill as more permits allow increased hunting activity. Last year 105 permits were issued. this year 1626. About 857 hunters participated last year with a 7 to 27 percent success. Permits are now issued by landowners and hunters must carry a regular hunting license if hunting outside their home county.
